Wells creates music by blending her many influences. She is a classically-trained violinist with a penchant for hip hop production. Live, Wells creates a lush layer of "symphonies" by looping and live sampling everything from her violin and voice, to her many toys and electronics. She performs both solo, and as a trio with drummer Sam Halterman and bassist Joey Reina, who also appear on her records.
Wells was born in Amarillo, TX and now resides in and tours from Los Angeles, CA. She is, however, moving back to NYC after her upcoming tour.

but walking around in the middle of the town,
freedom can be fun
Tell me all that wakes you wise
forget the mortgage and the end of time
we'll blend together like bleeding lips
and trust that death'll be our dying wish
My love, don't you worry, I got you in my arms
So we got out, first thing that we did was hit the hill top
to gaze upon the city that had given us birth
and listen to the sound of a baby's crying
It all starts somewhere It all starts somewhere
And once the sun had left the autumn sky
and the laughing of the children had gone inside
we wandered through the shadows of the tall streetlights
and remembered that it all ends somewhere
It all ends somewhere It all ends somewhere
Tell me all that wakes you wise
forget the mortgage and the end of time
we'll blend together like bleeding lips
and trust that death'll be our dying wish
come on over to the dark side, I'll keep it warm
My love, don't you worry, I got you in my arms
My time keeps floating away
My love, don't you worry, I got you in my arms
The lyrics of Emily Wells's song "Mt. Washington" speak about two people taking a stroll through town, contemplating the notion of freedom and the inevitability of death. The first verse conveys the initial hesitation one might have before embarking on a journey, but then quickly moves into a sense of liberation and excitement that comes with wandering about in a place with no particular destination. The second verse is a call to forget about materialistic woes like mortgages and instead focus on what truly matters in life. The metaphor of "bleeding lips" could signify the inseparable connection two people share, leaving their souls "blended together" in a passionate embrace. The line "come on over to the dark side, I'll keep it warm" alludes to the notion that the unknown and mysterious aspects of life can be just as comforting as the familiar.
The refrain of the song is the reassurance that no matter what happens, "My love, don't you worry, I got you in my arms." This line serves as a reminder that even amidst life's uncertainties, the most important thing is to have someone to hold onto. As the song reaches its conclusion, the duo watches the sunset and listens to the sound of a baby's crying, drawing attention to the cyclical nature of life. The final line of the song, "My time keeps floating away," could be interpreted as a reminder that we must cherish every moment we have with those we love, as time is fleeting.
Overall, "Mt. Washington" is a song about finding solace in the unknown and embracing the fleeting nature of life. The lyrics convey a sense of liberation, passion, and ultimately, love and companionship.
