Salem
Empire Alley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you say you're thinking it's maybe
You know it's for sure
When the shit comes down from the ceiling
You know you've hit the floor.

Turn your TVs down.
Throw your money to the ground.
Or I'll be taking the blame for tomorrow,
I'll be taking the blame for tomorrow.

These things you see
Want you to go
And take on your life, and all the things you know.
Your pride may bleed,
Your back's to the wall,
But don't back down darling, you're wishing to go.

It's just Salem, Salem, Salem outside.

When you say you'll pay for the problem
You know you're forgone.
When the crowd becomes your controller,
You know you've been the cause.

Turn your TVs down.
Throw your money to the ground.

Or I'll be taking the blame for tomorrow,
I'll be taking the blame for tomorrow.

These things you see
Want you to go,
And take on your life, and all the things you know.
Your pride may bleed,
Your back's to the wall
But don't back down darling, you're wishing to go.

It's just Salem, Salem, Salem outside.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Empire Alley's "Salem" paint a picture of a society in crisis. The first verse describes a feeling of inevitable doom - when someone says they're "thinking it's maybe," they actually mean they're certain. The second half of the verse references a messy, chaotic situation: "When the shit comes down from the ceiling, you know you've hit the floor." It's as if things have gone completely awry and there's no avoiding the consequences.

The chorus shifts the focus to a call for action. The singer urges listeners to turn off their TVs and "throw your money to the ground." The implication is that mainstream media and capitalism are part of the problem. The singer doesn't want to "be taking the blame for tomorrow," suggesting that if things continue as they are, society is headed for a fall.

The second verse echoes the first, with the line "when you say you'll pay for the problem, you know you're forgone." It's as if people are aware they need to make a change, but they feel helpless to do so. The chorus repeats, urging people to take control of their own lives and not back down in the face of hardship.

Overall, "Salem" feels like a warning - a cautionary tale of what could happen if we don't take action to make society more just and equitable. It suggests that we have the power to change things, but we need to act fast.

Your a brave women fir not only sharing but still hanging on. And I'm incredibly sorry yiur boys got sucked into that horrendous cycle.
I'm sure they never intended to become addicts , I believe they probably didn't want the withdrawals.
I wished fir death whilst going through withdrawals it's a real thing that nobody can adequately explain thec excruciating pain, and I've had 2 natural chikd births.
No body shoukd be pushed to thise limits all because a evil demon corporation doesn't value lives just reaps the financial jackpot with deaths.

This man was once a baby. A little boy with dreams and goals to be the best he could be. I hope this man becomes the man he always wanted to be. If anyone reading this is going through something similar, just know you're beautiful and capable to stop and getting better one day. I love you and believe in you

On the 28th of this month I will be eight months clean from pain pills. It has literally been the hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do.

@Devil_Hunter57

Great job Keep at it!! I’m currently 32 Days clean from prescription opioids and nicotine myself. Reading comments of people being clean for several months/years warms my heart since it’s one of the hardest habits to quit. I’m struggling with the mentality part but we will get through this together :)

@BillMcSwain

@@Devil_Hunter57 hey man, you can do it! You can do it! Whatever you do man just do not go back to them. Dude, I had a prescription around me today and I never even thought about fucking doing it so think about that just don’t do them.

@wolfpecker5710

Good for you man! You’re not lying, it is hard as hell to quit. I have 15 months clean yesterday from a decade+ long opioid addiction. I broke my neck in 2010 and got dependent on pain pills. Then towards the end of 2012 they started cracking down on the opioid epidemic and my doctor cut off my prescription with no warning or taper. Within 6 months of that I was a full blown heroin addict. Within 6 months of that I overdosed for the first time.
