Third Uncle
Eno / Cale Lyrics
There are tins
There was pork
There are legs
There are sharks
There was john
There are cliffs
There was mother
There's a poker
There was you
Then there was you.
There are scenes
There are blues
There are boots
There are shoes
There are turks
There are fools
They're in lockers
They're in schools
There in you
Then there was you
Burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
Cook the leather
Put it on me
Does it fit me or you?
It looks tight on you
There was pork
There are legs
There are sharks
There was john
There are cliffs
There was mother
There's a poker
There was you
Then there was you.
There are blues
There are boots
There are shoes
There are turks
There are fools
They're in lockers
They're in schools
There in you
Then there was you
Burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
Cook the leather
Put it on me
Does it fit me or you?
It looks tight on you

Third Uncle (original lyrics)
There were tips
There were sports
There are legs
There are sharks
It was strong
(There was wrong)
There were hips
(There was right)
There was nothing
(There was mother)
But despite
(There was father)
There was you
Then there was you
There are snakes
There are blues
There are boots
There are shoes
There are Turks
There are fools
There are pockets
There are schools
There was you
Then there was you
I'll burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
(Burn my love)
Burn these books
Burn these shoes
From these legs
(Break a leg)
Mother, father
Just in case there was you
Just to hide it from you
(Just to keep it from you)

Eno is the greatest, most important single figure in modern popular music. To think he is still plugging his music discretely while producing bands like Coldplay (Teardrop is an Eno song, like Born Under Punches, or Heroes a 100% Eno song), and this album is still modern 50 years after most of these songs were composed, is most amazing.
Gregory Clark
Low sounds like An ENO Record rather than a David Bowie LP !!!

Imagine being a 18yr old coming home in 1974 with this LP, simply because you knew of Eno from the two previous Roxy Music albums you had, and listening to this song for the first time and feeling that finally...... Oh my God!....... this!.....this is what I mean.....this is MY music.
Well I did and it was a moment I hope I will never forget.

Crazy. I admit that until tonight I have spent 30 years assuming that this was a Bauhaus song. This is brilliant!

Same here - and I still prefer their cover... 🤷🏼♂️

same. WTF a song! out of space, out of time, pure genious... IT's fucking dense ... at least thanks to Bauhaus to have make it known

live and learn 😉
I lived nearly as long believing that R.E.M. created the song "Superman"

Kvyn Gmbyr still waiting for your cover

I admire his ambient work, but I adore the art rock/art pop albums, and wish he'd made just a few more.
