Tridents Clash
Enochian Crescent Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Vel, vel

Om namah shivaya

For three days and nights
I have not slept nor fed
Dancing and drugs blur my mind
And as a proof of faith
His metal pierced my face
The mighty trident, cheek thru cheek

Vel, vel

Om namah shivaya

For thirty days and nights
I haven't been outside
Prayer and rice still my mind
This is a proof of fate
A living sacrifice
Burn needlessness in his fire

Burn!

Stoke the fires up
Thick smoke fills the restless air
Ritual damaru
Chanting and praying under his divine stare

Shivalingam response
A sadhulike trance
Rousing me from the sleep of life towards the
Cleansing in flames of agni

Om namah shivaya

For thirty years of life
I haven't been alive
Until I scrambled the mound of red hot coals
That was a proof of faith
Lord Shiva, Tandava
He shall burn this world

And put out the stars of heaven

Overall Meaning

The song "Tridents Clash" by Enochian Crescent is full of deep, mystical and sometimes violent imagery. The lyrics are written in a poetic style that contains religious and spiritual symbolism from Hindu culture. The first verse describes a person who has not slept or eaten for three days and nights due to the consumption of drugs while dancing. The second line talks about the person's face being pierced by a metal trident as a symbol of faith. The word "cheek through cheek" implies the trident has been pushed completely through their face. The lyrics "Vel, vel, Om Namah Shivaya" are repeated after each verse, and are a mantra that is often used in Shiva worship.

The second verse talks about a person who for thirty days and nights has not left their house, consumed rice and prayed to calm their mind. The person is preparing for a living sacrifice, hoping to burn away their needlessness in the fire of Lord Shiva. The next part of the song talks about stoking fires, chanting and praying under Shiva's divine stare while in a "sadhulike trance." A "sadhulike trance" is a state of mind that is similar to that of a Hindu ascetic who is committed to a life of austerity and spiritual discipline. The final part of the song describes a person's life of thirty years who has not been truly alive until they scrambled up a mound of red-hot coals. This action was a proof of faith and is a prelude to Lord Shiva burning the world and putting out the stars of heaven.
