Benét's father loved classical music and inspired an interest in music in his son. By his teens, Eric had formed a vocal group with his sister and cousin called "Benét." The group released a self-titled album in 1992 but only sold 70,000 copies possibly due to a lack of proper promotion by Capitol Records.
Also in 1992, Benét's girlfriend, Tami Stauff, gave birth to a daughter they named India. The couple's happiness was short-lived when 25-year old Tami was killed in a car accident on April 24, 1993.
In 1994, Benét signed with Warner Bros. Records, releasing his solo debut album, True to Myself, in fall (1996). His next album, A Day in the Life, was released in 1999; its first single, "Georgy Porgy (featuring Faith Evans)" received significant airplay, but the second single, "Spend My Life With You (featuring Tamia)", became a smash hit. "Spend My Life With You" rose to number one on the American R&B charts, was certified gold, and nominated for a 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. The album, A Day In The Life also won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, Male. Benét also recorded for Earth, Wind, and Fire's 30th anniversary CD.
Benét has also been active as an actor; he had a recurring role on the television program For Your Love (1998 - 2002). He made his film debut in Glitter (2001).
He became engaged to actress Halle Berry in 1999, and they married in January 2001. The couple separated in 2003 and have since divorced.
Eric Benét and Manuela Testolini were married in the early evening [July 31st]. Eric and Manuela revealed that they're also expecting their first child together.
Eric Benet Takes on First Major Acting Gig in 'Trinity' “Trinity Goodheart,” a film about a visitation from an Angel that leads to substantial discovery of awareness and earth shattering faith questions.
The film is based on an original screenplay by Rhonda Freeman-Baraka centered around a 12-year old girl on a mission to reunite her disjointed family, announced by the producer Rick Eldridge.
Eric Benét also has a new album Love & Life
Lay It Down

I can see you lost most of your fire
I don't see the will or the desire
And I can't hold a hand that won't reach for me
I don't your struggles or your reasons
And I don't the names of all your demons
I'm just a friend who knows what you've been needing
So come and lay it down
Oh you can lay it all on me
Come lay it down
Oh I'll help to find and ease
Just lay it down
Oh you can lay it all on me
Come lay it down
Baby everybody's trying to climb their mountain
Don't nobody know a way to go around it
If there's a road that's trouble-free, no one has found it
So don't ever feel like no one knows your suffering
Everybody has a load that they must carry
To go it alone is so unnecessary
Don't let your pride deny this love ain't good for sharing
'Cause I'm here for you and any healing that may bring
So come and lay it down
Come lay it, you can lay it all on me
Come lay it down
Come lay it, I'll help to find and ease
Just lay it down
Come lay it, you can lay it all on me
Come lay it down
Someday when this pain is over
The light at the end I see
Oh one day you will need a shoulder
Come lay all your burdens on me
Just lay it down, just lay it down
So come and lay it down
Come lay it, you can lay it all on me
Just lay it down
Come lay it, I'll help to find and ease
Just lay it down
Come lay it, you can lay it all on me
Come lay it down
Lay your burdens all on me
Come lay it, you can lay it all on me
Just lay it down
Come lay it, I'll help to find and ease
Come lay it down
Come lay it, you can lay it all on me
Come lay it down
It's gonna be alright
We gonna work it out, yeah
The lyrics of Lay It Down by Eric Benet are a powerful message of support and encouragement. In the first verse, the singer recognizes the struggle and lack of motivation of their friend. They offer a helping hand, but acknowledge that they cannot hold onto someone who doesn't want to be helped. The chorus repeats the message that their friend can lay it all on them, and they will find a way to ease their burden.
The second verse expands on the theme of struggle, recognizing that everyone has their own mountain to climb and that there is no easy way around it. The singer encourages their friend to share their burdens, as they know firsthand that going it alone is unnecessary. The third verse provides hope for the future, acknowledging that the pain will one day be over and that their friend will need a shoulder of support.
Overall, the lyrics of Lay It Down are a reminder that we all go through tough times and that we don't have to face them alone. The message of support and understanding is particularly poignant given the challenges many people have faced in the past year.
