Follow me-e-e-e-e, follow me, yeah
Don't ask me just where we're going
Don't ask me what for and why!
Just get up and come with me
Oh, oh, oh baby.
Follow me, follow me, follow me
I'll take you where the music playing
I'll take you where the lights are dim
I want to you to understand
That I'll be you only man if want
Follow me, follow me, follow me, follow me.
I'll take you where the music's playing
I'll take you where the lights are dim
I want you to understand
That I'll be your only man, so come on
Follow me, follow me, follow me, follow me.
Oh, oh, oh follow, follow follow. follow follow follo-ow
Follow. follow, follow follow follow follow me-e, yeah.
Eric Donaldson's "Follow Me" is a classic reggae love song that first gained traction in the early 1970s. At its core, the song is about the desire to be with someone and the willingness to lead them towards a brighter future. The lyrics begin with the singer urging his love interest to follow him without asking any questions as to where they are going or why. He asserts that he will take her to a place where the music is playing and the lights are dim, expressing his desire to be her only man. Throughout the song, the singer repeats the lines "follow me" in a call-and-response style that is common in reggae music.
One interpretation of this song is that the singer is asking his love interest to trust him and follow him on an adventure, despite any uncertainty or fear. The repetition of the phrase "follow me" reinforces the idea that the singer is confident in his direction and wants his partner to feel safe and secure with him. The verses describe a romantic setting, creating an ambiance of love and enjoyment. By the end of the song, the singer's message is clear: he wants his love interest to follow him closely and create a future together.
