The abbreviation e.s.t. must not be confused with the band Electro Shock Therapy or an Italian band called EST.
e.s.t was renowned for their vibrant style - playing in rock venues to young crowds. They achieved great commercial success and critical acclaim throughout Europe. Their 1999 release From Gagarin's Point of View started their international breakthrough, being the first e.s.t. album to be released outside of Scandinavia through the German label ACT.
In 1995 and 1996 Esbjörn Svensson was awarded Swedish Jazz Musician of the Year and 1998 Songwriter of the Year, and the 1997 release Winter in Venice, consisting mainly of original material – was awarded the Swedish Grammy. Strange Place For Snow, E.S.T.'s 2002 release earned numerous awards including the Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (from the German Phonoacademy), the German Jazz Award, Choc de l'année (Jazzman, France), the Victoire du Jazz – the French Grammy – as best international act and also the Revelation of the Festival award, a special award from Midem. In December 2004, E.S.T. was awarded the Hans Koller prize as European Artist of the Year.
Esbjörn Svensson tragically died after a diving accident in Sweden on June 14, 2008. He was 44 years old.
2022 saw the release of Svensson's posthumous solo piano album, HOME.S.. Scrobbles of this album are auto-corrected by Last.fm and re-directed to the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, whereas the album is credited to Svensson alone.

I was lucky enough to see him once at the Old Fruit Market in Glasgow (2006). I was shivering through the entire performance. He was not only a superb musician but also a fantastic person with a tremendous depth. No dislike for this video. No wonder. It's simply impossible to not like this masterpiece :-)

So astonishing, it brings tears to my eyes. Coupled with the enormous loss when the sea claimed Esbjörn, the beauty and pain combined are almost too much to bear.

Dan Berglund is my new favourite bassist.

What an unparalleled talent. It was like being given the best starter you've ever tasted, then suddenly you were told that the kitchen was closed. RIP Esbjörn

@Feroze Engineer It's my metaphor and I'm sticking to it.

starter? it's taken me 10 years to really appreciate every track in their discography. would love another 10 of "course"...

The idea of this song was used for a soundtrack for the show Zankyou no Terror, and I believe one of the tracks features the bassist's daughter (?) Hanna Berglind--they share a last name. Interesting!

"Idea"? They sound almost the exact same. I'm a Yoko Kanno's fan and listening this song left me in shock because 'saga' (which is Kanno's version) was my absolute favorite in the soundtrack.

Not only is the music timeless and the performance fantastic, but the modernist set, the filming filming ,all those cables on stage - give it a nice '70s retro vibe. Some cadences of the solo section remind me of 'Blue in Green/Autumn Leaves' changes.
