The band burst into the scene, gaining the attention of bloggers and music tastemakers nationwide after the release of their debut full-length, Ladders. Released a few short months after the band’s formation, Ladders showed extreme promise for the band, featuring a powerhouse assortment of tracks that effortlessly mixed the lyrical sincerity of Death Cab For Cutie and the mainstream arrangements of alternative-rock superstars Coldplay.
Since their first release, Escape Directors have grown immensely, hitting the books and learning the ropes of the music business, fine-tuning their musical craft. Escape Directors grew closer than ever, which helped fuel material for their newest EP, The Crowded Room, which is set a July 16 release. The band picked up and moved to Cleveland for a week to work with indie and alternative guru Jim Wirt. The legendary producer has guided several big names in the scene, including Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin, Incubus, Fiona Apple and Hidden In Plain View. With the new EP, Escape Directors promise even more experimental tracks by throwing in rock-driven instrumentals and influence from indie acts like Radiohead.
Recently named the “Best of 2010” by Q104.3’s Jonathan Clarke, the quartet is finalizing potential touring plans for later this summer.
Car Crash
Escape Directors Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Out on the highway
And I was the only survivor
I made it out alive
So I fled the wreckage
And called in the accident
With hopes to save the people
My Lucia
I'll try and save you
But my attempts did fail
On and on
I see her face and wonder
If I could have saved her
On and on
On and on
She's a ghost to me now
And she's never coming back
There lay the victims
In the back of the ambulance
As if there is something
The doctor's can do, to save them
So I'll cry for mercy
At this horrific day
But no god above
Can change the truthfulness
In fate
Try to be kind
Tell me it's fine
But I know that it's not
Give me some time
Lucy I'll try
To fix my mistakes
Escape Directors' "Car Crash" is an emotional song that tells the story of a car accident survivor. The singer describes the moment of the crash on the highway, where they were the only survivor. They fled the wreckage but called in help for those still trapped inside with hopes to save them. However, despite their efforts, they were not able to save Lucia, one of the victims, and now they are haunted by thoughts of what they could have done differently. The song ends with the singer asking for mercy on this horrific day, realizing that fate cannot be changed, but they still hope to fix their mistakes and find some kind of peace.
The song's lyrics are very powerful and emotional, telling a story of tragedy and loss that is relatable for many people. The themes of regret, guilt and the struggle to let go of the past are universal, and the song's imagery of a car accident adds to the intensity of the message. The song's chorus is particularly impactful, repeating the phrase "on and on" multiple times, emphasizing the singer's pain and haunting memories.
