My Apocalypse
Escape the Fate Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a place that I've found
As far as I can see
This place lies within
The depths of my dreams
In a garden surrounded
By fire and trees
Through the smoke a silhouette I can barely see
There's a man with an axe
Standing in the rain

Looked me straight in the eyes
This is what he had to say

Never fall asleep
You won't wake up
Destroy the guillotine
Before he does

I walk with shadows
(You have to find a better way)
I walk with shadows
(The questions I will never say)
Hiding from the gallows
(They keep me safe and sound)
So I walk in shadows
(The ways of burning down this house)

This transmission
The satellites are down
I need an earthquake
To shake this pity
Off the ground

Just don't trust these liars at the door
(You have to find a better way)
Kill the ones that have these answers for
(The questions I will never say)

Never fall asleep
You won't wake up
Destroy the guillotine
Before he does

I walk with shadows
(You have to find a better way)
I walk with shadows
(The questions I will never say)
Hiding from the gallows
(They keep me safe and sound)
So I walk in shadows
(The ways of burning down this house)

This transmission
The satellites are down
I need an earthquake
To shake this pity
Off the ground

All the vibrant colors I see
And the shades that fill the grey

Pain
The pain
Pain
The pain
Pain the pain
Pain the pain
Pain
Pain
The pain
Pain
The pain
Pain the pain
Pain the pain
Pain

Hiding from the gallows
(You have to find a better way)
I walk with shadows
(The questions I will never say)
Hiding from the gallows
(They keep me safe and sound)

So I walk in shadows
(The ways of burning down this house)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "My Apocalypse" by Escape the Fate are quite cryptic, but their evocative language does suggest a world in which the singer feels isolated and chased, constantly threatened by something or someone unknown. The opening lines describe a dream world where the singer, deep in sleep, finds a place enveloped in smoke, fire and trees. The silhouette of a man appears, emerging from the smoke, axe in hand, and warns the singer to never fall asleep, to destroy the guillotine before "he" (whoever "he" may be) does.

The rest of the lyrics continue in this vein of warning and fearfulness, as the singer walks with shadows to avoid the gallows, and is distrustful of people who claim to have all the answers. The chorus repeats a call to avoid sleeping, to destroy the guillotine, and to walk in shadows to stay safe. The last stanza provides an interesting shift in tone, with the singer seemingly acknowledging that there is beauty in the world, but that it is also filled with pain. Overall, the lyrics suggest an intense, frightening state of mind, where the singer is haunted by the prospect of violence and danger at every turn.

You can leave the Emo, but the Emo will never leave you. One way or another, we'll always end up here.

@LeftBehind666

You don't have to be emo to like this though.

@simca1821

Idk if the person meant it like that but ppl think you have to be Emo to enjoy a certain song when that's not the case at all. So those ppl that believe they moved on from a so called Emo phase to avoid a song they like sounds, pretty immature and stupid. Don't you think so?
