Due Me a Favour
Estelle Lyrics

Oh
Oh
Oh
Oh
Oh
Oh, yeah

Yo
It's like speeding down the highway
With a blind fold on (yeah)
No hands on the wheel
Hopin' God will lead me my way
And I know he real (word)
So my grandma say
But I feel a sweat from the sun
'Cause I work construction
I gotta take care of my son
I got one in the oven on the way
Rents late, two months
'Cause my land lord talks too much

Hands full of calluses
And I still got the magic touch to make wifey blush
I been workin' it out since a high school crush (crush)
Foot's on the clutch
Minds on my money
But my money ain't there
But I will not resort to welfare
I can't stop, won't stop
Couldn't even do it if I tried (yeah)
If I said I did it, I lied
Let's ride

(Listen) I need a favor tonight
More than heaven knows
I need a favor tonight (aye, aye, aye)
I need a favor tonight
Could God do me a favor?
I could really use a favor
Could I get it tonight?

I need a favor tonight
More than heaven knows
I need a favor tonight (aye, aye, aye)
I need a favor tonight
Could God do me a favor?
I could really use a favor
Could I get it tonight?

No Christmas here
I'm taking time and a half
Gotta make that cash
Even if a nigga gotta drive that cab
I'ma treat it like a limo
Didn't know? Y'better ask
Somebody told me closed mouths don't eat
Closed eyes may never ever see it
So I try with everything I've got to not sleep
But it's hard to run if at first you don't creep (yeah)
After work take the long way home
See a lotta whips dipped out in chrome
Thinkin' about a house but I can't get a loan
So I day dream on my way back to my zone
Thinkin' how my son look when he full grown
Will he be raised right or another street clone?
Everything I know God knows, gotta show him
And let him know he is not alone, keep on

(Hey, hey) I need a favor tonight
More than heaven knows
I need a favor tonight (hey hey, hey hey)
I need a favor tonight
God do me a favor?
I could really use a favor
Can I get it tonight? (Ooh-oh)

I need a favor tonight (can you please?)
More than heaven knows
I need a favor tonight (I won't let you down, I need it)
I need a favor tonight (hey)
God do me a favor?
I could really use a favor
Can I get (do) it tonight?

It's like I'm drownin' in a world of failure
But I can't stop 'til my suits are tailored
Where I live, I can't trust my neighbors
Some only trust in they Lord the Savior
I gotta believe in the fact
That he must want better for us
Like young C gotta do it for us
My car broke down
F the bus, F the mayor
F the city laws are unjust
It's like why do I try
When I feel I'm gonna die
Without a tear left in my eye?
I work the hard to see the lease
It's like cultivating the harvest
Not seeing the feast
I don't wanna get philosophical go-to deed
I have faith but I'm afraid to take the lead
Most of what I know
I know holds me back
Instead of learning
I want that lac', come on

(Hey) I need a favor tonight
More than heaven knows
I need a favor tonight (aye, aye, aye)
I need a favor tonight
Could God do me a favor?
I could really use a favor
Can I get it tonight?

I need a favor tonight
More than heaven knows
I need a favor tonight (hey hey, hey hey)
I need a favor tonight (please, tonight)
Could God do me a favor? (Tonight)
I could really use a favor
Can I get it tonight?

Knows I need a favor tonight
Tonight, do it tonight
Tonight, do it tonight
Tonight

Yo cuz? Yo
Why you takin' me to the water B?
I mean, shit is peaceful
It's like real romantic
You know I ain't into that shit, right?
C'mon nigga
Alright cool, yah mean?
'Cause you know nigga, I keep it hood nigga
Yeah yeah, all day
I mean, real talk
I ain't really wanna come up here to fuck with you like
But you a cool nigga B, you a cool nigga B
Yeah alright stupid
But like for real
Yeah
Like, you take me to the club
And you don't fuck with none of the hoes
And there's bad bitches up here in Toronto, I mean forreal
How many times I gotta tell you to stop calling them bitches yo, listen
There don't be bitches like this in Harlem, nah mean?
Yeah I know
But uhm, yo man, you don't even kick me no hot, like no exclusive shit
You don't kick no lyrics to me, nah mean? (Ha ha)
Like what is it? What you tryna show me?
Yeah, so lyrics? Alright, listen to this shit

Some of my friends are terrorists
Some of my friends deal crack and I am not okay with this
Some niggas I know only back me because I rake dough like a gardener
fuck it I work harder
I don't like most hip hop out
There's a secret society of niggas who wanna shout, "Turn that bullshit off!"
I should shut my mouth?
Next thing you know I ain't welcome down south of the border
I don't believe in turfs or a section
I believe in community
Where anybody can walk good without protection
I believe that Dilla was the numba one dude in rap
Whether on the slaps or the haikus
I spite you for not givin' it up
Fuck what that nigga say, nigga give it up

Why black people act like little kids?
Make mad excuses when they know what it is
Be like them white folks invest that shit
Instead niggas clownin' on the red carpet
Showing my niece that a million on the neck is the hot shit
Is bloodclaut disrespect
And growin' up poor don't make you ignant
Act your age
Don't act your pigment
Race to the top
Don't let your race stop you
From revolution
Open your mouth and bust shots
Read books
Young niggas say, "Hello"
Screw faces of fuckery, we know ya spawns jello
Spit what you been through
Spit what you know
And don't waste my time
Fuck your demo
Ya heard?

Ha ha, here you go with that knowledge shit nigga
That shit was hot, stop frontin' though

Overall Meaning

The song "Do Me a Favor" by Estelle is a moving and heartfelt piece about the struggles of life and the need for help sometimes. The lyrics tell the story of a man who is trying his best to provide for his family, but is met with trials at every turn. He talks about his struggles with work, his finances, and his doubts about his ability to succeed. Despite everything, he remains determined and asks for help from God in his time of need.

The song is rich with metaphors and imagery from the very first line. The singer describes feeling like she is "speeding down the highway with a blindfold on," a metaphor for the uncertainty and lack of control in her life. She goes on to describe the calloused hands of a construction worker and the sweat of the sun on his back, creating a vivid image of the hardworking man's struggle. The repeated refrain of "I need a favor tonight" drives home the central message of the song: that sometimes, no matter how strong we are, we need help and support from others to succeed.

I have friends who are involved in illegal and dangerous activities, but I don't support that. I work harder than anyone else and don't like most popular hip hop music. There are some people who don't like this type of music and they should speak up about it. I don't believe in divisions or sections, and think everyone should work together as a community. I believe that J Dilla was the best rapper and I'm disappointed that more people don't recognize his talent. Black people need to act more responsibly and invest in themselves instead of using excuses. We should represent ourselves positively and never show off in front of children. We need to be responsible and mature, regardless of our skin color. We should work towards a better world and not let race divide us. We should speak up for what we believe in and use education to make change.
