Evanescence Lyrics

"Goodbye, son. Be nice to God." "I made you bologna and mustard, with the edges cut off, just the way you like it."

Overall Meaning

These lyrics come from the song Ascension of the Spirit by Evanescence, which is a beautiful and emotional piano-based track that appears on the band's fourth studio album, Synthesis. The lyrics are delivered in a spoken-word format, and they seem to be spoken from the perspective of a mother saying goodbye to her son. The phrases are simple, yet poignant, and they convey a sense of love, protectiveness, and the pain of separation.

The first line, "Goodbye, son. Be nice to God," is a clear reference to the idea of death and the afterlife. It suggests that the mother believes her son is going to heaven, and she wants him to behave well in the eyes of the divine. The second line, "I made you bologna and mustard, with the edges cut off, just the way you like it," is a reference to a simple and beloved childhood meal that the mother has prepared for her son. The fact that she has cut off the edges is a small act of kindness that shows her attention to detail and her desire to make her son feel loved and cared for.

Overall, these lyrics are a heart-wrenching expression of love and loss. They offer a glimpse into the emotions that a parent might feel when saying goodbye to a child, and they highlight the small gestures and memories that can make that goodbye all the more difficult.

Guys, you´re told: I want this melody playing along the way towards my own grave. It´s so beautiful, yet so sad. I feel as a ghost watching people crying and mourning around my coffin. This song makes me think about when it will all be over: the life we lived, the people we met, the family, the moments shared, the labor days, the longings, regret, betrayal, love... And also, in the end, a chance to be okay and meet everyone on the other side. As profound as this requiem is for me.

I think evanescence's old stuff is definitely a trend with uber depressed people wanting to be just that. there's pure beauty and emotion in old evanescence, something you strive to see when your grieving or wishing time here would end.

It pierces through the soul like a flying arrow. Letting me to drown into my sorrow. Oh, how I wish to be together with you once again. To forget about everyday's pain. For Far too long have I felt these treatments. It is now time to shatter into fragments. Causing the ascension of the spirit. I will make the my finall act, my final flip. Little poem I made for the song. Hope you can appreciate it

She is just amazing. I fully discovered her at the age of 15 my sophomore year of high school. I’m 28 now and she’s still my Queen.

You do NOT understand how long I've searched for this. Well. Over half my life, actually <.< My dad ripped a CD off the internet for me and told me it was Fallen, but because he'd basically downloaded random songs he didn't know any names. I wasn't even sure Evanescence sang this. I've been listening to it as "Beauty" all these years, ahha. xD
