Born on May 13, 197… Read Full Bio ↴Evelin Samuel is an Estonian singer and actress.
Born on May 13, 1975 she quickly found herself on stage. In late 1980s she joined the children's musical theatre Colombina where she had several lead roles, including performing at the Roskilde Rock Festival in Denmark in early 1990s.
In 1993 Evelin Samuel ended up 4th at Kaks Takti Ette, a contest for young singers, organized by the Estonian Televisioon. Same year she won the Baltic song contest Via Baltica with a song To You. Less than 2 years later she won another cong contest Uus Laul 1994, with Vari ja roos, and went on singing on ferries on the Baltic Sea.
In 1997 Evelin took part in the Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist for the Estonian entry, Keelatud Maa, performed by Maarja-Liis Ilus, and ended up 8th. A year later she had a smashing ballad Unistus igavesest päevast competing in Eurolaul but was left without a ticket to Eurovision 1998 at the very last second of the voting.
In 1999 she finally won Eurolaul with a beautiful new age ballad Diamond of Night and got a respectable 6th at the Eurovision held in Jerusalem. The lyrics for the song came from Maian-Anna Kärmas who has written many a song and lyric for Evelin Samuel. Maian has also been working as a backing vocalist for Evelin.
Evelin has tried to do Eurovision a couple of more times but so far never won again. However in 2000 and 2006 Evelin was seen as the jury speaker for Estonia at the Eurovision.
2002 marked the release of her debut album Over the Water Blue under the name Alternature.
In 2001 Evelin Samuel was cast to play the role of Fantine in the musical Les Miserables in Tallinn but had to cancel her participation due to personal reasons in the middle of the rehearsals. Still a couple of years later she gained good reviews for the role of Nancy in Lionel Bart`s Oliver! in Tallinn and went on to play in the musical Miss Saigon in Helsinki for 1.5 years.
In late 2006 Evelin Samuel gave a birth to her first son. She currently lives with her husband and son in Tallinn.

The sun in my eyes did fade
Why do I feel like the spring is so far?
Why am I snowing in my heart?
You're not here with me now
And the sky will be so dark
I'll be a waterfall with you
I am a waterfall, falling for you
I am an island for you
I am an ocean your ship will sail on
I am a waterfall for you
You're not here with me now
And the sky will be so dark
There's no stars to see now
Not until you will come
You'll come back to me again, and then
I am a waterfall, falling for you
I am an island for you
I am an ocean your ship will sail on
I am a waterfall for you
I am a waterfall, falling for you now
You will be back again, and then
I am a waterfall with you
The song "Waterfall" by Evelin Samuel expresses a feeling of emptiness and loneliness when the person one loves is not around. The lyrics ask rhetorical questions that describe the sadness the singer feels, comparing herself to the dreariness of a rainy day, and stating how the absence of the loved one makes her feel like spring is so far away and that she's snowing in her heart. The chorus expresses how the singer will be happy and overflowing with love like a waterfall when the loved one returns. The lyrics indicate that the loved one makes her feel like an island, an ocean, and a waterfall, which are all natural symbols of profound emotional response. By metaphorically associating herself with these natural elements, Evelin Samuel emphasizes the depth of her love for the person she sings of.
The song's chorus repeats the phrase "I am a waterfall, falling for you" to emphasize the magnitude of the love she experiences. The repetition of this phrase throughout the song makes it the central idea of the song, and the various metaphors used to display the depth of her love all convey the same meaning. The singer repeats this phrase with slight changes to indicate moments of triumph or anticipation, like at the end of the song, where she sings, "You will be back again, and then I am a waterfall with you."

We share the same thoughts! Actually I think that this could've done really well in 1996, because every song in that top 3 has this particular magical sound. :-)
