Enjoy the Silence
Evergreen Terrace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
The lyrics to Evergreen Terrace's version of "Enjoy the Silence" convey a sense of frustration and disillusionment with words and language. The opening lines "Words like violence, break the silence" suggest that words can be forceful and hurtful, disrupting the calmness and peace within the singer's world. The pain caused by words is emphasized with the lines "Painful to me, pierce right through me." The singer pleads with someone, possibly a loved one, unable to comprehend why they cannot understand the impact words have on them, referring to them as "my little girl."
However, the chorus provides a contrast to the earlier verses. It expresses that all the singer ever wanted and needed is in their arms, implying that they value actions and physical presence more than words. The repetition of "Words are very unnecessary, they can only do harm" reinforces the idea that words are trivial and ultimately meaningless. The lyrics suggest that feelings and experiences are intense and significant, while words are superficial and transitory. The final lines "Words are meaningless and forgettable" emphasize this disillusionment with words altogether.
Overall, Evergreen Terrace's version of "Enjoy the Silence" presents a perspective that cherishes the tangible and emotional aspects of relationships, rather than relying on empty or potentially harmful words.
