Broken Glass
Evermore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See the lines in the broken glass
She wore a face just like a mask
The sewers are empty except for the rats
She wore a face just like a mask
Buildings broken, littered in trash
Blackish bruises covered in ash
The silent benefit of instant cash
She wore a face just like a mask

I don't know what you have done
And you have dried all my fears up
I don't know what distant star
You came from but I'm dreaming of

In the hollow trees, in the valleys and shacks
To the big black smoke and the huddlled mass
That's for you right, beginning, middle and end
History my love, a god unfair

I don't know what you have done
And you have dried all my fears up
I don't know what distant star
I know ooh I know I'm dreaming of

Wanna walk on water
Wanna walk with you
Wanna walk on water
And see things through
Wanna walk on water

Wanna walk with you
Wanna walk on water and see things through

Overall Meaning

In Evermore's song "Broken Glass," the lyrics paint a picture of a broken and dilapidated city filled with poverty, crime, and despair. The opening lines "See the lines in the broken glass, she wore a face just like a mask" illustrate the idea of something once beautiful being broken and discarded, and people hiding their true selves behind a facade. The lines "The sewers are empty except for the rats, buildings broken, littered in trash" further emphasize the bleakness and degradation of the city. The mention of "blackish bruises covered in ash" and "the silent benefit of instant cash" hint at the violence and corruption that pervades this world.

Despite the darkness of the song, there is a glimmer of hope in the chorus: "I don't know what you have done, and you have dried all my fears up, I don't know what distant star, you came from but I'm dreaming of." The singer finds solace in an unknown person who has helped them overcome their fears, and they dream of a brighter future.

The latter half of the song seems to reflect on the larger themes of history and social inequality. The lines "In the hollow trees, in the valleys and shacks, to the big black smoke and the huddled mass, that's for you right, beginning, middle and end, history my love, a god unfair," suggest that the struggles faced by the poor and marginalized are an integral part of history and an injustice that has persisted through time.

Overall, "Broken Glass" is a powerful commentary on the struggles of people living in poverty and the hope for a better future.

Has anyone noticed โ€œOne for the money, two for the showโ€ based on childrenโ€™s rhyme?

โ€œOne for the money
Two for the show
Three to GET READY
And four to GOโ€

Taylor Swift - Champagne Problems
โ€œOne for the money
Two for the show
I NEVER was READY
So I watch you GOโ€

She turned a childrenโ€™s fun rhyme into an emotionally sad lyrics. Just pure GENIUS !

"Champagne Problems" is a song about how a person is preparing to propose to their lover. The person has already informed their family and their friends, who are all ready to celebrate and applaud once the engagement was done. The person is using their mother's ring to propose. The person even prepared what to say when they would propose. But before they could say anything, the lover ran away, because the lover thought that they weren't enough for the person. The lover couldn't give a proper reason as to why they can't marry the person. The lover says that they didn't know what to answer until the person went down on their knees. Everyone says the lover would have made a lovely bride, but it's a shame that they're already confused and conflicted on their own. Because the lover turned him down, the person booked a night train to get out of the place, so they could sit there all alone while hurting. The lover says one day that the person will find someone else who will say yes to them. Someday their friends group ( they are not sure they'll ever be able to say "our friends" again, because they won't be able to face the person or any of their friends) will get over the initial shock and then maybe one day they'll deck the halls again for when the person feels ready and finds someone to propose to again who will say yes for sure. This problem, that the lover broke the person's heart might not be a nationwide issue or that big of a deal to most people, because soon everyone will move on and forget all about it. The person and lover included. But at the moment, it does seem like a big problem. Taylor is a literary geniusโ™ฅ
