Embrace the Emptiness
Evoken Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wait in sorrow
On a Grey colored floor
Begging for a darker emotion
To overtake what is not yet black

I'm slowly crawling to my own end (just to be with you)
Calling out to the mist that covers
your presence (but I can feel you near)
Touching with my thoughts

(only imagined pleasures can exist)

Overall Meaning

The opening verse of Evoken's "Embrace the Emptiness" sets a bleak tone, describing the singer waiting in sorrow on a grey floor, begging for an even darker emotion to overtake them. Essentially, they are seeking a deeper state of despair or sadness, perhaps as a way of escaping the numbness they feel. The contrast between the dull grey of their surroundings and the desire for something even darker suggests a craving for intensity, a desperate need to feel something, even if it's painful.

The second verse adds more depth to the singer's mindset, as they state that they are crawling towards their own end, seemingly welcoming death as a way of being reunited with someone they miss (possibly a lover or friend who has already passed away). They call out to the mist that covers this person's presence, indicating that they can't quite see them but can sense their closeness. Instead, they touch with their thoughts, likely imagining the pleasure of being reunited with this person but acknowledging that it can only exist in their mind.

Overall, "Embrace the Emptiness" portrays a person struggling with intense emotions (or lack thereof), desperately yearning for a way to escape their current state of being. The lyrics are evocative and haunting, painting a vivid picture of a person in despair.

THE DAY i buried my mom, the last one of my elders i stll had, I had this ´´revelation´´:PART OF ME DIED WITH HER AND WITH MY DAD, WHO died 4 years before her and so that part had to suffer the experience of being buried along with them, this mighty album came to my mind, specially ´´to sleep eternally´´ ,the one describing the thoughts and reflexions about resting forever among grief and despair... damn, it is so evocative... one of those masterpieces you get to think it was written for you... as if the state of mind in such dark moments were a universal experience... dying, being born, the path we all have to go through the nothingness... EMBRACING THE EMPTINESS...

I lost dad and mom too. Mom is still "alive" with Alzheimer. It is hard not to drown. This band carries the weight of grief. Stay strong forever.

Suffering is a blessing. It is the greatest tool to be used to clease one's impurities. It is the gateway to enlightenment. It is the truest gift form God. Say, "amor fati," and embrace the world's suffering as your own.
