The Bus
Executive Slacks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh No!
Our legs are touching
Are touching on the bus

Well I'm not moving
It doesn't bother me
My legs if they're shaking
But it doesn't bother me

Thank you
For attending an itch
Now I can be
In my own space
Ignore everyone else

Oh No!

Our legs are touching
Are touching on the bus

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Executive Slacks's song The Bus seem to depict the uncomfortable situation of two strangers sitting close together on a bus, their legs touching each other. The singer seems to point out the awkwardness of the moment, acknowledging that it might bother the other person but stating that it doesn't bother him. He then expresses gratitude to the person for scratching an itch, which allows him to be in his own space and ignore the discomfort of being so close to another person.

The line "our legs are touching" can be interpreted as a metaphor for the invasion of personal space that occurs in crowded public transportation. The singer seems to be acknowledging the claustrophobic nature of the situation, but at the same time, he seems to be suggesting that it's something that needs to be endured. The fact that he's "not moving" implies that he's choosing to stay in his seat rather than try to adjust his position or move away from the other person.

Overall, the lyrics of The Bus seem to capture the sense of detachment that people often feel when traveling on crowded public transportation. The song seems to be suggesting that in these situations, we're all just trying to find ways to cope with the discomfort and stay in our own space.

'The Bus' Executive Slacks is truly a masterpiece, what a message/ sound this is..
A véry under estimated band and so important to me.

Thanks a lot!!

@Drensly

This is unreal sexy, why don't more people talk about them? Apples and oranges to compare with a much later 80's Ministry but I can't help but make that comparison. Modern post punk bands could only dream to be this awesome.

@daisaigai7

No wonder. An album like "The Land of Rape and Honey" shows the same influences. Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft and all this EBM stuff mixed with Punk guitars.

@daisaigai7

Indie magazines from the mid-1980s called this music "Rock-oriented Body Music". And that's what it is. It sounds like a mix between DAF and Palais Schaumburg. A track like "Thirty Years" sounds even more like DAF. This bassline is so typically German...
