Piel Canela
Eydie Gorme con El Trio Los Panchos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Que se quede el infinito sin estrellas,
o que pierda el ancho mar su inmensidad;
pero el negro de tus ojos que no muera
y el canela de tu piel se quede igual

Si perdiera el arcoiris su belleza
y las flores su perfune y su color,
no sería tan inmensa mi tristeza,
como aquella de quedarme sin tu amor

Me importas tú y tú y tú
y solamente tú y tú y tú
Me importas tú y tú y tú
y nadie más que túuuuuu

Ojos negros, piel canela,
que me llegan a desesperar

Me importas tú y tú y tú
y solamente tú y tú y tú
Me importas tú y tú y tú
y nadie más que túuuuu

Ojos negros, piel canela,
que me llegan a desesperar

Me importas tú y tú y tú
y solamente tú y tú y tú

Me importas tú y tú y tú
y nadie más que túuuuu

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Piel Canela" by the Eydie Gorme con El Trio Los Panchos are a passionate declaration of love, highlighting just how important the singer's lover is to him. The opening lines express an almost apocalyptic vision of loss - the infinite without stars, the ocean without its immensity - but the singer asserts that what matters most to him is that the blackness of his lover's eyes and the cinnamon-colored warmth of their skin never fades. This leads to the chorus, which becomes increasingly urgent and repetitive as the singer reiterates again and again how much he cares for this one person - "me importas tú y tú y tú / y solamente tú y tú y tú" (you and only you).

The second verse follows a similar pattern, with the singer declaring that even the loss of beauty in nature would pale in comparison to the grief he would feel if he were separated from his beloved. The romanticism of the song is focused primarily on physical attributes - "ojos negros, piel canela" (black eyes, cinnamon skin) - but the intensity of feeling conveyed through the lyrics and the dramatic, bolero-style music is palpable. The use of repeated phrases and the coda-like repetition of the chorus at the end give the song a hypnotic quality, emphasizing the singer's singular devotion to his lover.

Que se quede el infinito sin estrellas,
Even if the infinite universe loses its stars,

o que pierda el ancho mar su inmensidad;
or if the vast ocean loses its immensity;

pero el negro de tus ojos que no muera
the blackness of your eyes should not fade away

y el canela de tu piel se quede igual
and the cinnamon tone of your skin should stay the same

Si perdiera el arcoiris su belleza
Even if the rainbow loses its beauty

y las flores su perfume y su color,
and flowers their scent and color,

no sería tan inmensa mi tristeza,
my sadness would not be as immense

como aquella de quedarme sin tu amor
as that of losing your love

Me importas tú y tú y tú
You matter to me, you, you, and only you,

y solamente tú y tú y tú
and only you, you, and you.

Ojos negros, piel canela,
Black eyes, cinnamon skin,

que me llegan a desesperar
you drive me to despair

Me importas tú y tú y tú
You matter to me, you, you, and only you,

y solamente tú y tú y tú
and only you, you, and you.

Ojos negros, piel canela,
Black eyes, cinnamon skin,

que me llegan a desesperar.
you drive me to despair.

Me importas tú y tú y tú
You matter to me, you, you, and only you,

y solamente tú y tú y tú
and only you, you, and you.

Me importas tú y nadie más que tú
You matter to me, no one else but you.

In the mid 1960's, my mom bought an album my entire family loves, "Eydie Gorme and Los Panchos: Amor."
This album was played so many times, my mom bought another copy.
In 1967, I was five years old.
I remember playing the album and sitting in front of the speakers.
I was listening to the album and staring at the cover.
I was thinking Eydie Gorme is so pretty.
In the early 1970's, my mom bought a copy of the album on an 8-track tape.
In 2005, I bought a copy of the album on CD.
In 2017, I had finally found a used copy of the album on vinyl.
I listened to it once.
I bought a frame for it and I have it hanging in my living room with other framed albums by The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Santana.
My siblings and I have different tastes in music.
My siblings and I love the album, "Eydie Gorme And Los Panchos: Amor."
This album is one of my favorite top ten albums I love and listen to alot.
My favorite song on the album is "Historia de un Amor."
