It's not an accident, you meant everything you did
I thought our futures were connected, I've never been so wrong
You know it's neverending, I've got my feet here on the ground
You pulled me under, I fought so hard for you
Look how soon we forget
It's not a compliment, you haven't found it
It's not a compliment, you haven't found your drowning
I was sinking in the deep end
My world had come unglued
I traced my steps back over, over (Traced my steps back)
You took your cheap shot too
You pulled me under, I fought so hard for you
To let you know that you were not alone (You're not alone)
Look how soon we forget
It's not a compliment, you haven't found it
It's not a compliment, you haven't found your drowning
I thought our futures were connected, I've never been so wrong
I thought our futures were connected, I've never been so wrong
You pulled me under, I fought so hard for you
To let you know that you were not alone (You're not alone)
Look how soon we forget
It's not a compliment, you haven't found it
It's not a compliment, you haven't found your drowning
Look how soon we forget
I fought so hard for you (I fought so hard for you)
I fought so hard for you (I fought so hard for you)
I fought so hard for you (I fought so hard for you)
I fought so hard for you
You pulled me under, I fought so hard
for you
The lyrics of Eyeshine's song "Drowning" convey the sense of being trapped and overwhelmed in a toxic relationship. The singer had held their head above the water, trying to keep themselves afloat while their partner keeps pushing them down intentionally. The lyrics suggest that the singer believed their future was connected to their partner, but they were wrong. It is evident that the relationship is not a healthy one, as the singer is struggling to get out of it. They are stuck in this cycle of being put down and brought back up, and it is taking an immense toll on the singer. Despite their best efforts to fight for the relationship, they feel like they are drowning in it.
The lyrics also mention how easy it is to forget the negative aspects of a toxic relationship. The singer recognizes that it is not a compliment to be drowned in the relationship, and yet their partner hasn't found their own drowning. It is a powerful message about the dangers of getting caught up in a relationship that isn't right for you.
Overall, "Drowning" is a reflection of the struggle that many people face in their relationships. It's a heartbreaking and honest portrayal of the turmoil that comes with trying to stay afloat in a sea of toxicity.
