Leonardo " Flaco" Jiménez began performing, at the age of seven, with his father, Santiago Jimenez, who was a pioneer of conjunto music and began recording at age fifteen as a member of Los Caporales. He played in the San Antonio area for several years, and then began working with Douglas Sahm in the 1960s. Sahm, better known as the founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet, played with Jiménez for some time. Flaco then went on to New York City and worked with Dr. John, David Lindley, Peter Rowan, Ry Cooder and Bob Dylan. He appeared on Cooder's world music album Chicken Skin Music and on the Rolling Stones' Voodoo Lounge. This led to greater awareness of his music outside America and, after touring Europe with Ry Cooder, he returned to tour in America with his own band, and on a joint bill with Peter Rowan. Jiménez, Peter Rowan and Wally Drogos were the original members of a band called The Free Mexican Airforce.
Jiménez won a Grammy Award in 1986 for Ay Te Dejo en San Antonio, one of his father's songs. He was also a member of the Tejano fusion group Texas Tornados, with Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm and Freddy Fender. The Texas Tornados won a Grammy Award in 1990, and Jiménez earned one on his own in 1996, when his self-titled album Flaco Jiménez won the Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Performance. In 1999, Flaco earned another Grammy Award for Best Tejano Performance for Said and Done (released by Barbed Wire Records), and one for Best Mexican-American Performance as a part of supergroup Los Super Seven. Jiménez has also won a Best Video award at the Tejano Music Awards and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from Billboard Latin Magazine for "Streets of Bakersfield" with Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens.
Jiménez appeared in the movie Picking Up the Pieces, with Woody Allen and Sharon Stone, and also featured on the soundtrack. His music has featured in the soundtrack for other movies such as Y Tu Mamá También, The Border, Tin Cup, and Striptease. The Hohner company collaborated with Jiménez to create the Flaco Jimenez Signature Series of accordions.
His brother, Santiago Jiménez, Jr., is also an accomplished accordionist who has recorded extensively.
Jiménez's latest CD, Ya Volvi De La Guerra, was issued in 2009 by Fiesta Records.

No, yo no tengo nada
Voy a gritarlo fuerte
Que lo sepa la gente
No te puedo olvidar
Y es que ya no puedo más
Quiero gritarlo fuerte
Ya no lo puedo negar
Mi corazón te quiere
Pero ya no puedo mas
Voy a gritarlo fuerte
Que lo sepa la gente
No te puedo olvidar
Y es que ya no puedo más
Quiero gritarlo fuerte
Ya no lo puedo negar
Mi corazón te quiere
Mi corazón te quiere.

The song "Mi Corazón Te Quiere" by Flaco Jiménez is a ballad that portrays the feelings of a man whose heart still yearns for his lost love. In the first verse, he denies being sad and missing her, but in the next, he reveals that he is not the same person he used to before she left him. He admits to feeling a deep sadness which he tries to hide from everyone. The chorus shows the reality of his emotions as he confesses that he can't forget her and he wants to shout it out to the world. He acknowledges that his heart still loves her and he can't deny it anymore.
The lyrics have a bittersweet tone, and the words are carefully arranged to convey the conflicting emotions of the singer. On one hand, he wants to move on and forget his lost love, but on the other hand, his heart still beats for her. The use of the accordion, a signature instrument of traditional Mexican music, adds to the melancholic feel of the song.
Overall, "Mi Corazón Te Quiere" is a poignant ballad that explores the complex emotions of love and heartbreak. It portrays the universal theme of holding on to a lost love and the struggle of trying to forget them.

Que por que estoy triste
People ask why I'm sad
No, yo no tengo nada
I say I have nothing to be sad about
Que si es porque te fuiste
They ask if it's because you left
No, ya ni me acordaba, ah ah ah
But honestly, I barely even remember you
Que en mi se adivina una honda pena
They sense a deep sadness within me
Que no soy el mismo
I'm not the same person I used to be
Que antes fuera, ah ah ah
Before you left
Y yo siempre digo
I always say
Que no me pasa nada
That nothing is wrong with me
Que ya te olvide
That I already forgot about you
Y que para mi, no vales nada
And that you mean nothing to me
Pero ya no puedo mas
But I can't take it anymore
Voy a gritarlo fuerte
I'm going to scream it out loud
Que lo sepa la gente
So that people know
No te puedo olvidar
That I can't forget you
Y es que ya no puedo más
Because I can't take it anymore
Quiero gritarlo fuerte
I want to scream it out loud
Ya no lo puedo negar
I can't deny it anymore
Mi corazón te quiere
My heart still loves you
Mi corazón te quiere.
My heart still loves you.
