Desert Song
Fair Warning Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Refugees ' homeless and bare
Out in the endless sands
Sunburned faces ' eyes of despair
Searching the promised land

And a nameless sorrow '
Way deep inside their souls
If there's no tomorrow '
Nothing will remain
No one ever knows '

As they move '
Through the land of shadow
And the setting sun in a boundless range
As the night comes on
With the desert song

There were times of justice and peace
Or was it just a dream
Golden ages ' joyful and free
So far away it seems

But the sound of laughter '
Still ringing in their ears
If theere's no here after '
Time will turn a page
Seal it with a tear '

On the move '
Through the land of shadows
And the setting sun in a biundless range
As the night comes on '
Sing the desert song

Carved in the dark ' their city of dreams
Drowed in the baseless sands
Gardens of life ' abandoned and bare
Turned to deserted land

Out on the fields of night
Stormwinds begin to rise

Out on the run
With the desert song

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Fair Warning's song "Desert Song" speak to the plight of refugees who are wandering through endless sands in search of a promised land. These refugees are depicted as being homeless and bare, with sunburned faces and eyes of despair. There is a nameless sorrow deep inside their souls, and they are moving through a land of shadow with nothing but the setting sun as their guide. The song references a time of justice and peace that may have only been a dream, as well as golden ages that are now seemingly far away.

Despite the hopelessness of their situation, there is still the sound of laughter ringing in the refugees' ears. If there is no hereafter, time will turn the page and seal it with a tear. The lyrics also reference a city of dreams that has been carved in the dark, drowned in baseless sands, and turned to deserted land. As stormwinds begin to rise, the refugees are forced to run with the desert song.

Overall, "Desert Song" is a poignant commentary on the struggle of refugees who are seeking safety and stability in a world that is often cruel and unforgiving. The song's haunting melodies and lyrics are particularly resonant in today's political climate, where millions of people are being displaced from their homes by war, violence, and persecution.

I have a live in Tokyo version of this on mp3 but not sure which album it's from (if any). I also have an acoustic "live at home" version. Out of all three of these versions - the Live Tokyo version is the best of all 3. Thanks for posting... first time I heard the original studio version :)
