About You
Farmers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Seems that I read, or somebody said
That out of sight is out of mind
Maybe that's so but I tried to go
And leave you behind, what did I find...

I took a trip on the train
And I thought about you,
I passed a shadowy lane
And I thought about you,

Two or three cars parked under the stars
A winding stream
Moon shining down on some little town
And with each beam, same old dream

At every stop that we made
Oh, I thought about you
But when I pulled down the shade
Then I really felt blue,

I peeked through the crack
And looked at the track
The one going back to you

And what did I do
I thought about you

Overall Meaning

In Farmers's song "About You," the lyrics explore the idea that even when we try to forget someone or something, they still linger in our minds. The singer mentions a common phrase, "out of sight, out of mind," and admits that they attempted to leave the person behind, but it didn't work. Throughout the song, the singer describes a train journey where they pass various scenes that remind them of the person they're trying to forget. From a shadowy lane to moonlit towns and winding streams, every moment rekindles the same old dream.

The train journey becomes a metaphor for the singer's attempt to move on, but they eventually come to the realization that they can't forget about the person. Although they try to pull the shade down and block out the memories, they still peek through the crack and think about the track leading them back to the person. These lyrics express the universal experience of trying to forget someone but failing to do so.

@Jack evans The UK gasses approximately 1/3 of their pigs. Thats where I've seen them. You also gas baby chicks. It also might be worth looking into what happens to all your unhoused pets/strays as well.

I think we're talking past each other. I never said that we don't see ourselves as above them, but I'm pointing out the evil of might makes right, that simply because you are able to, you are justified in taking what ever you want from them. That is an abuse if power.
I don't have to equate someone else's life as equal to mine to respect their life.

The cheapest foods on this planet are vegan and are sold in practically every shop.
If you're using the tools and lessons of those who came before you to oppress those weaker than you when it is unnecessary, that's more of an insult to the intellect that helped raise you to a position where you don't have to intentionally harm others.
It's mad that you think you'd forget how to hunt at this stage, you can hone a sill without killing someone. Wisdom is not only having the skill but to know when to use it, and twice a week to unnecessarily harm those weaker than you for your our preference of pleasure is an immature use of power.
The idea that an animal needs to be prey in order for you to find value in them shows the supermarket mentality you seem to view them through. (As objects for you to use)

"Veganism: is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals"
If you would be ashamed to stand against exploitation and cruelty to animals, I think I see where we differ.

It is extremely biased of humans to think that it’s OK to kill plants but not animals. We don’t operate on the same plane as plants and we still don’t understand a lot about how they work. Here are some things we do know - Plants are “aware quote of their surroundings. Plants can communicate with one another via pheromones and electrical signals through fungi in the soil. Some plants can live for thousands and thousands of years. Plants have a very very complex interconnections with insects certain mammals other plants and abiotic environmental factors. Basically, plants are amazing.

You cannot justify killing plants over animals because they don’t have eyes that look at you or the ability to move freely. Because you lack the ability to communicate with them and they feel so different from us does not place them lower in the pecking order.

It’s good to practice compassion for other beings, and I would encourage anyone to offset any negative impact their life has on others by say, planting a garden and providing habitat for other animals. I find that many vegans Live in a delusion where they can’t accept the fact that their life requires other lives to be taken. There’s a correlation between living in a city and veganism because you are fundamentally disconnected from what it means to provide for yourself.

It’s a large responsibility to be a human. We can be the givers or takers of life. Stewards of the environment or destructors. What matters the most though are your actions as a whole. I’m in organic farmer who produces food for other humans. I’ve taken a10 acre plot of land and transformed it into an incredibly productive, diverse, healthy ecosystem. I could not have done it without animals. I would not be able to Produce nearly the amount of calories per acre that I do if I did not utilize animals. Animals are part of a regenerative agricultural system. Not to mention that they are incredibly nourishing and in fact medicinal to the human body if you get good quality meat. Our ancestors bread these animals to be domesticated for our use just as they did to all of our food crops. These animals would not even exist if it weren’t for humans. Would it be a crime then to never allow them to experience life?

So in summary, something is going to die in order for you to live. It is a fact of life that you will have to confront at some point or another. It’s good to minimize needless suffering and to be a conscious consumer. Buy meat from small organic farmers. If you really want to do something good for animal welfare, vote with your dollar for farmers that treat animals ethically. When you abstain from eating meat you in effect don’t vote. Spend some time in nature and get to understand the food web. We are all part of it.

Something Funny

Kenobi General One bold a are you. By making that statement you just made the situation worse. As your words imply one of two things....

1.Eating plants make Vegans no better than us omnivs and carnivs because they choose the easy way by eating those who can not defend themselves

Or

2. Vegans are neglectful of the plant’s well being and need for mental help choosing instead to ignore their suicidal nature by devouring them

Kenobi General lose you. Collection my to this adding be will I

Mr. Fictions

@Stoned Ape If you wanna leave the land as it was then 100% local grass fed meat carnivore diet, lands will remain green and pure for beings of all kinds, support of biodiversity, no poisons, no pesticides, no lands destroyed, no gain for the big industries, no global desertification, no rivers poisoned, that diet is not about us it's for the environment + your brain won't shrink, no insecurity, no depression, no hate. Unless your taste for useless fruits and fake milks are more important? Beyond vegan. "veganism does less harm: Debunked". B12: veganism debunked.

Stoned Ape

Mr. Fictions does being born into something have anything to do with weather someone is brainwashed? Yes, but I’m a way that contradicts your statement. in my experience most religious people where born into their beliefs and never looked into it enough to realise how rediculous it is, society also raises us to believe many things from birth so the ones with the ability to think critically who form new beliefs as adults and actually look into those beliefs are the ones who are not brainwashed and can think for themselves I have already tried to debunk veganism from an unbiased point of view because of course I’d love to be able to eat meat with a clean conscience but it’s not possible. Mr. Fictions: illogical, delusional and most of all debunked.

Stoned Ape

Mr. Fictions did you get those statistics from psychologytoday.com? Lol educate yourself on reliable resources.
