And You
Fastbacks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you know what strength you have inside?
Even wonder what you could do if you tried?
Let your best judgment be your guide.
Ever wonder what you could do if you tried?
Make up your mind and that you will not let down .
Taking your time don't let them put you down.
Stay and see it through.
Tell yourself you've got time on your side.
Ever wonder what you could do if you tried?

you've got more than what you know outside.
Ever wonder what you could do if you tried?

Overall Meaning

The Fastbacks' song "If You Tried" encourages listeners to tap into their inner strength and potential by taking charge of their lives and striving towards their goals. The opening lines of the song suggest that many people may be unaware of the strength they possess, and that by believing in themselves, they can achieve great things. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Ever wonder what you could do if you tried?", emphasizing the importance of taking action and not simply wondering what might have been. The lyrics suggest that by making up one's mind and refusing to give up, one can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. The line "Tell yourself you've got time on your side" also reinforces the idea that success is a process that requires patience and perseverance.

Overall, "If You Tried" is a powerful and inspiring call to action that encourages listeners to believe in themselves and their abilities. By embracing their inner strength and refusing to give up, they can achieve their goals and live up to their true potential.

Some day, when one guy in the world
Finally owns everything and when
I'm sure that he's not thinking of me
When he says, 'Hi there,
I really am your friend
Sorry, I'm doing all I can
For you and I really mean that!'

Nobody ever asked me what I wanted from them and then
Listened to me say, they only ask me again

That's about the time I'll be going to the moon
And then that's where I'll stay, far away, from here

Someday, when I can't take this place
I'll take a trip out into space
I think I mean it!

Perhaps the most under appreciated band from Seattle? This is SO good.

@startervisions

Yup...a perfect pop band with perfect pop songs

@marcgrossman980

Also the best band from Seattle.

@dannyspelman1468

I discovered this band about eight years ago, whilst watching the movie Hype! I was about 27. I couldn't believe I had never heard them before. I've loved them ever since. I'm addicted. Every album is amazing. Some songs are better than others but ALL are good. I don't know whether to be happy as one of the enlightened to discover their brilliance or sad because they really do not get the recognition, exposure or appreciation they deserve. I'll stay positive and stick with the former for now.

@ExplodingTacoCat

hell yeah this band rules. you should listen to the band “ovens” they sound a lot like the Fastbacks

@dannyspelman1468

@@ExplodingTacoCat I'll definitely check them out.

@ExplodingTacoCat

@@dannyspelman1468 https://youtu.be/ea5LfrFuOBU here they are man, their lead singer claimed that the fastbacks are the whole reason he began this band, you can also see a lot of early weezer influence

@dannyspelman1468

@@ExplodingTacoCat Excellent! I love early Weezer!

@ExplodingTacoCat

Danny Spelman yeah weezer was tight, also if you dig the ovens sound their lead singer tony Molina does solo work which is just as great, check out his albums “dissed and dismissed” and “songs from Mateo county” those are two great albums that literally sound so much like Fastbacks/Pinkerton and blue
