Fat Freddy's Drop Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't leave it too late.
You'd better do it now,
There's a devil at your gate.
The northern breeze is blowin',
I wanna pick up pace,
So when the mornin' comes,
There'll be no time to waste.
You gotta hold the house down,
Yes you gotta be strong.
There's a thief out on the loose
and it means to steal your home.
You gotta hide the children,
Gotta keep them well away.
There's a killer roamin' free
in your neighbourhood today.
You'd better run for shelter,
Don't leave it too late.
You'd better do it now,
There's a devil at your gate.
The northern breeze is blowin',
I'm gonna pick up pace,
So when the mornin' comes,
There'll be no time to waste.
You gotta hold the house down,
Yes you gotta be strong.
There's a thief out on the loose
and it means to steal your home.
You gotta hide the children,
Gotta keep them well away.
There's a killer roamin' free
in your neighbourhood today.
Keep runnin', now.
You're a thief, you're a liar,
You wanna steal my fire
She took my family,
Took the very part of me.
You're a thief, you're a liar,
You wanna steal my fire
She took my family,
Took the very part of me.
The lyrics of Fat Freddy's Drop's song "Wild Wind" paint a picture of impending danger and the urgent need to take action to protect oneself and loved ones. The first verse warns of a devil at the gate, urging the listener to run for shelter and not leave it too late. The northern breeze seems to signal a coming storm, and the urgency to pick up pace and not waste any more time. The second verse instructs the listener to hold the house down and be strong since there is a thief on the loose who intends to steal their home. It also urges the listener to hide the children and keep them away since there is a killer roaming freely in the neighborhood.
The chorus repeats the message of the first verse, imploring the listener to run for shelter and act now before it's too late. The bridge introduces a different perspective, one of loss and betrayal. The lyrics suggest a person or entity that has taken away the family and the very essence of who the singer is. It may be that the "thief" and "liar" in this verse refer to a specific person, while the other verses refer to a more general sense of danger affecting the community.
The song portrays a sense of urgency, building up tension and anxiety through the lyrics and the instrumental elements. It speaks about the need to take action as individuals and as a community in the face of danger, whether that danger be from a physical threat or a more abstract one.
