If You
Fear Cult Lyrics

Behind those eyes an open door
That vacant stare which I adore
I'm your slut, and you're my whore
Spare yourself the aching heart
And spare yourself the pain
Let us just make believe it's yesterday again
And mother, if you're wondering, but don't know what to say
Mother, if you're watching, look away
Just look away
I think I found what I'm looking for
So hit the lights and shut the door
Listen carefully here's the score
I'm your slut, and you're my whore
Spare yourself the aching heart
And spare yourself the shame
Let us just make believe it's yesterday again
And mother, if you're watching, look away
And mother, if you're wondering, but don't know what to say
Mother, if you're watching, look away
Just look away
It sometimes make me sick inside
Ashamed of a life that I must hide
I know you'll never understand
I'm sorry there's no wedding band
But deep inside there's still that child
Innocent in a world gone wild
Obedient of your moral code
Scarred by a Christian overload
But still I live by truth and love
I still have hopes in the above
I still have interest in the cross
But mother if your listening shut if off
Mother, if you're watching look away
Just look away
Just look away
Just look away
The lyrics to Fear Cult's song "If You're Watching" delve into a mix of emotions, delving from sexual desire, shame, regret, and a tryst with Christianity. The lyrics convey a sense of wanting to escape the pain and shame of reality and go back in time to when things were easier. The song's speaker has found what he wants behind a pair of vacant eyes, and so begins the sexual play, which goes beyond the physical and sinks deeper into the mind. The lyrics allude to the fact that the sexual relationship is less about physical pleasure and more about emotional release. It's clear that there is something about the partner that sets him apart, taking on a powerful, almost religious kind of power over the singer.
The lyrics also touch on the complications of living in a world where sexuality is still viewed as taboo, especially from the perspective of the singer's mother. The singer is ashamed of his secret life, feeling as though it goes against everything he has been taught. His Christian upbringing has scarred him, and he is now looking for something that will allow him to escape its grip.
Overall, the song's tone is dark, raw, and emotive, touching on feelings of vulnerability, despair, and a sense of disillusionment with the world around. It is powerful in its honesty and its willingness to confront the complexity of the human experience.

@Anna Bagley Marilyn Manson is actually considered Alternative Metal, particularly Goth-Industrial-Metal, that band was on Trent Reznor/NIN's "Nothing Records" label, and we all know that NIN is condidered a popular Industrial-Rock/Metal band. True Goth music is heavily rooted at the punk rock music structure and embellished upon with the post-punk vibes. I like Deathrock bands because most of them are dark(er) punk/post-punk in the simplest way of explaining what is Deathrock and Goth music.
