In April 2009, a new lineup was announced with Cazares returning and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud are both reprising their respective roles, and the band completed a seventh studio album entitled Mechanize. Former members Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera (both currently playing in Arkaea) dispute the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle is underway from both parties. The band has performed at three Ozzfests as well as the inaugural Gigantour and has had singles in the US Mainstream Rock Top 40 and albums in the Billboard Top 40, 100, and 200. The band has sold more than 1 million albums in the US alone.
Descent

Designed thoughts and intellect
Forgotten and displaced
The crux of my dismay
I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
Deeper into this obyss
Weighted down and sinking fast
Life did not offer me
More than false destiny
I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
I am nothing
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
I am nothing
I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?
The lyrics of Fear Factory's song "Descent" speak of personal despair and hopelessness. The singer feels neglected and forgotten, trapped in a cycle of unfulfilling thoughts and ideas that leave them feeling as though they are nothing. The repeated refrain of "I am nothing; I feel nothing" echoes the sense of emptiness and disconnection that the singer feels.
The image of "descending" into an abyss is a metaphor for the singer's emotional state. They feel as though they are sinking deeper and deeper into a void of meaninglessness and despair, and they wonder how far they must go until they reach their ultimate end. The repeated question of "How deep I descend?" highlights their sense of uncertainty and loss.
The final verse of the song leaves the singer in a place of total despair, where they feel nothing at all. The repetition of the word "nothing" emphasizes the emptiness and futility of their state of mind.
In summary, Fear Factory's "Descent" speaks of a deep and painful emotional journey, in which the singer feels abandoned and isolated from the world around them. They are trapped in a cycle of unfulfillment and despair, wondering where it will all lead and whether there is any escape.
