In April 2009, a new lineup was announced with Cazares returning and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud are both reprising their respective roles, and the band completed a seventh studio album entitled Mechanize. Former members Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera (both currently playing in Arkaea) dispute the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle is underway from both parties. The band has performed at three Ozzfests as well as the inaugural Gigantour and has had singles in the US Mainstream Rock Top 40 and albums in the Billboard Top 40, 100, and 200. The band has sold more than 1 million albums in the US alone.
Regenerate
Fear Factory Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Material debris
Remove scar tissue
Decayed and diseased
Establish a connection
Matter to the mind
My self replication
Run for your life
Look in my eyes
Look in my eyes
It's not over
I will survive
I will survive
I regenerated now
I've finally found new ground
Breathing new life now
I will regenerate
Replace for enhancement
Destroy permanence
Born again and faithless
Shatter the resilient
I have got the power
To effect a change
Amplify my body
Don't fade away
Look in my eyes
Look in my eyes
It's not over
I will survive
I will survive
I regenerated now
I've finally found new ground
Breathing new life now
I will regenerate
You can't kill me
I regenerated now
I've finally found new ground
Breathing new life now
I will regenerate
New life today
The lyrics of Fear Factory's song "Regenerate" seem to describe a process of physical and mental transformation that involves removing all kinds of negative elements that keep the person from evolving and growing. The first verse talks about getting rid of material debris and damaged tissue both from the mind and the body, to establish a clearer connection. The following verses touch on themes of rebirth, power, and change, affirming the singer's capacity to regenerate and survive. The repeated refrain "Look in my eyes, it's not over, I will survive" reinforces this idea of resilience and unwavering determination as the key elements for overcoming obstacles.
The bridge section of the song seems to suggest that this transformation process might sometimes require letting go of certain ideas or beliefs and embracing new ones, giving birth to a faithless identity that challenges the norms of permanence and resilience. This sense of shifting identity is also echoed in the final line of the refrain "New life today", implying a sense of renewed energy and purpose.
Overall, the song seems to convey a message of hope and empowerment, promoting the idea that transformation is not only possible but an ongoing process that requires effort and determination. The lyrics use powerful imagery to depict this process of regeneration as a kind of rebirth or resurrection, with the ultimate goal of empowering the individual to reach their full potential.
