In April 2009, a new lineup was announced with Cazares returning and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud are both reprising their respective roles, and the band completed a seventh studio album entitled Mechanize. Former members Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera (both currently playing in Arkaea) dispute the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle is underway from both parties. The band has performed at three Ozzfests as well as the inaugural Gigantour and has had singles in the US Mainstream Rock Top 40 and albums in the Billboard Top 40, 100, and 200. The band has sold more than 1 million albums in the US alone.

All that is dead around me
Lifeless in the wake of catastrophe
Burning in my mind, I am not deceived
Judgment into my own mortality
Now that the soul is free
Now that the soul is free
I bled my heart of all it can bleed
Lighting the spark, igniting the fuse
Destroyed the lies and saw absolute truth
From out of darkness and into the light
The future is wide open and is on my side
Now that the soul is free
I severed ties of man and machine
Now that the soul is free
I bled my heart of all it can bleed
Try!
War!
Try!
War!
Try!
War!
Try!
War!
You can't stop it
You can't kill it
And it won't stop coming
Until you're dead
Now that the soul is free
I severed ties of man and machine
Now that the soul is free
I bled my heart of all it can bleed
Now that the soul is free
I severed ties of man and machine
Now that the soul is free
I bled my heart of all it can bleed
Try!
War!
Try!
War!
The lyrics to "Terminate" by Fear Factory are a powerful reflection of the aftermath of a disaster. The first verse states that everything around the author is dead and lifeless due to some kind of catastrophe. However, despite this immense destruction, the author has some clarity and is not deceived about what they are facing. As a result, the author reflects on their mortality and judgment, implying that this event has left them questioning what it truly means to be alive.
In the chorus, the author speaks of the soul being free, and how they have severed ties with both man and machine. This could be interpreted as a rejection of society or technology, or perhaps a commentary on how they feel their humanity has been stripped away in the face of this tragedy. The author then says they have bled their heart of all it can bleed, perhaps indicating that they have reached their emotional limit.
The second verse speaks to the author's journey from darkness to light. They have found the truth and destroyed the lies, and the future is now open to them. The repeated lines of "Try!" and "War!" could be seen as a battle cry, urging the listener to fight for their freedom and persevere through difficult times. The final lines of the song, "You can't stop it, you can't kill it, and it won't stop coming until you're dead," are a chilling reminder of the powerful forces at play in our lives.
Overall, "Terminate" is a song about survival and resilience in the face of disaster. The author has faced immense destruction, but they have found clarity and truth, and are striving to move forward despite the odds.
