My breath obscures the windowpane
I draw a heart, a broken heart
And sign it in my name
I turn around your windswept hair
I see your face, but you’re not there
Cause late into the night the angels came
It breaks my heart that you have gone
All I can do is dream of what we had
Our precious moments etched in gold
You were my rock, you were my friend, my soul
Forever I’ll be in love with you
I walk around our home you loved
I see your memory everywhere
Your portrait in the drawing room
Your smile for all to glee
Little things that tear my eyes
Your wedding band, you idolized
Inscribed, my love forever you will be
It breaks my heart that you have gone
But in my world you still belong
And all I can do is dream of what we had
Our precious moments etched in gold
You were my rock, you were my friend, my soul
Forever I will be in love with you
Forever I’ll be in love with you
Forever I’ll be in love with you
Forever I’ll be in love with you
The lyrics of Ferris's song "Messing With Love" depict a heartbroken narrator who is mourning the loss of a loved one. The song starts with the singer standing in the morning chill, symbolizing a sense of emptiness and loneliness. As they draw a heart, a broken heart, on the windowpane, it reflects their feelings of sadness and heartache. The broken heart is signed with their name, indicating a personal connection to the pain they are experiencing.
The singer mentions the absence of the person they have lost, acknowledging that even though they can see their face in their mind, they are no longer physically present. The line "late into the night the angels came" suggests that the departed loved one has passed away. It reveals a sense of longing for their presence and a deep sadness over their absence.
Despite the sorrow, the singer still feels a strong connection to the lost loved one. They express that in their personal world, the departed still belongs, indicating that their memory and influence continue to have a significant impact. The singer laments that all they can do now is dream of the moments they shared, reminiscing about the precious memories they hold dear. They describe these moments as "etched in gold," emphasizing their enduring and priceless nature.
Throughout the song, the singer walks through their shared home, encountering reminders of their loved one everywhere. The presence of their memory is palpable, from a portrait in the drawing room to the wedding band that was cherished. These little things serve as triggers for the singer's grief, bringing tears to their eyes. The inscription on the wedding band, "my love forever you will be," further emphasizes the depth and eternal nature of their feelings.
In summary, "Messing With Love" is a heartfelt song about the pain of losing someone dear, but also about the enduring love and connection that remains even after they are gone. It speaks to the longing, the memories, and the profound impact that love and loss can have on our lives.
