Dreijer was born on 7 April 1975 in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1994, they formed the indie rock band Honey Is Cool, where they served as the lead vocalist and guitarist. Together with their brother Olof Dreijer, they formed an electronic music duo The Knife in 1999, and have spanned a series of successful and critically acclaimed albums.
What would you do if one decade into your career you suddenly saw one of your songs turned into a worldwide hit, won six Grammis in your native Sweden and your latest release was declared album of the year by one of the world’s most influential music websites? If you’re Karin Dreijer, the answer is to take a couple of years off and return as a solo artist under a new name: Fever Ray.
In Dreijer's's own words: “I had so many songs to record that I just had to make an album. I thought I was going to have a longer break but I guess it will never happen. I can't stop working. My aim was to finish the album and, now that it's done, I'm a bit restless (good that The Knife has an opera to write then). During the last years, I discovered that I like to sing too, so I hope that my newly found live band Fever Ray will make it to the stages next year. We are rehearsing and building something beautiful and brilliant."

The lyrics of Fever Ray's song This Country have been interpreted in different ways, but there is a general consensus that the house and the country imagery refer to oppressive environments that hinder individuals from fully expressing themselves and loving freely. The repetition of the phrase "This house makes it hard to fuck" emphasizes the frustration and sexual repression experienced by the singer. It is possible to interpret the house as a metaphor for a relationship or a familial environment that restricts the singer's autonomy and sexual desires. The refrain "That's not how to love me" could be seen as a plea for acceptance and understanding from the partner or the family members.
The second part of the song shifts to a broader socio-political critique, with the line "This country makes it hard to fuck" suggesting that the societal norms and laws in the country inhibit people's sexual freedom and identity. It is worth noting that the song was released in 2017, a time when debates around sexual harassment, consent, and LGBTQ+ rights were gaining prominence in various countries. In this sense, the lyrics of This Country can be seen as a commentary on the restrictive and oppressive nature of the patriarchal and heteronormative structures in society.

So bizarre, chaotic and obnoxious. I love that Karin is back and she's stepping over her own boundaries. And l especially love that she disbanded The Knife and then went ahead and combined their sound and visuals with the likes of Fever Ray. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE PHYSICAL RELEASE!!!

Guys, you are not either the same after 8 years, I don't understand why most of you can't get people change over the time. I like the old Fever Ray and the new one.
