Blur
Field Theory Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm right in front of your face
I was there all the time
But still there is no trace
Have I been erased
I know I'm not dead
I long for your embrace
Can you see me
I am right here
I need to be
Visible to you, you never let me close to you
I need to know
That you're still here
Don't you turn your back on me
The lyrics of Field Theory's song "Blur" reflect the frustration of feeling invisible to someone despite being physically present. The song begins with the singer expressing the feeling of being ignored despite being right in front of the person he/she is addressing. The singer wonders if he/she has been erased from the other person's life, emphasizing on the feeling of being unnoticed. The line "I know I'm not dead, I long for your embrace" further emphasizes how the singer is not invisible, but still not being seen.
The chorus of the song emphasizes on the need to be seen and acknowledged by the other person. The singer expresses the need to be visible, for the other person to not turn their back on him/her. The song captures the feeling of being ignored, the desperation to be seen, and the need to be acknowledged.

Many thanks to my friend Thomas Harvey who helped me write this video. Thomas was my roommate during my Master's at Cambridge, he is now doing a PhD at Oxford University, and quantum field theory is his daily routine : https://www2.physics.ox.ac.uk/contacts/people/harveyt

Hi, can you describe how Higgs field works?

@Hugos Thar No, he doesn't have to read all your replies. The original one sums it up.

@Free Citizen hi. 'Received pronouciation' - I guess the currently accepted standard ways of saying words correctly - itself maybe best summarised as being intelligible to the maximum proportion of listeners. One prefers "arse" to "ass", for example :)

@Hugos Thar I disagree, to the extent I'm bothering to reply. Absolute clarity of diction maximises clarity of communication. Such ad hominem attacks appear subjuvenile - to be clear, not an attack in itself, more a probabilistic interpretation. I thought this video rather good. Surely you could construct a more useful critique? A high proportion of viewers might well find such unambiguous pronunciation helpful.. innit?

@Michael Roy if you mean confirmation bias, I agree. I had hoped expectations might allow the fog, if not the clouds, to clear :)

@andrew cobb surely expectations cloud our vision.
