Over the next three years, Fire & Forget produced no less than eight attempts at do-it-yourself demos, recorded variously in Richard's living room, Richard's garage and the Lock-Up rehearsal rooms in deepest, darkest Chesterton, before finally reaching a proper studio to record "Spirit Of '84" in 2003, the line-up having shifted semi-regularly to include Oliver Longden/Desade/Twisted (vocals), Kit Rathenar (bass) and Siobhan Gibson (guitar) alongside Richard and Bonzo.
Gigs have generally been centred around Cambridge, kicking off with the infamous night in Richard's living room, through to Cambridge's ubiquitous venues of the day, the Portland Arms, the Man on the Moon and the Boat Race (RIP) - via East London's legendary Ruskin Arms. Yes, you heard that right!
Unfortunately, in early 2004, silence fell on the band in the live arena as Oliver, Richard and Kit worked their way through more drummers than there are in the whole of Cambridge, halting any live work for two years, before making a triumphant return to the Portland Arms in July 2006 with Kevin Last behind the tubs. This line-up was to last (no pun intended) all of five minutes before he too spontaneously combusted to be replaced by Mikki Scorpion.
Somehow, stability descended on the quartet of Oliver, Richard, Kit and Mikki, who have managed to stay intact for almost two years, recording the second demo entitled "Blood, Sweat and Tears" in early 2007 with a more guitar-goth-influenced sound, playing more live shows than had been previously thought possible, and even being having mugshots of the show at Strawberry Fair 2008 featured on the BBC Cambridge website.
Fire & Forget deserve serious respect for sticking together when everyone else had given up on them; you could even describe them as the cockroaches of Heavy Metal. When George Bush accidentally drops a nuke on Cambridge thinking it's an al-Qa'eda training camp, the dust will settle, silence will fall only to be broken with the sound of a sneering Northern voice shouting: "Hello! We are Fire & Forget, WE SOUND LIKE THIS!"

Weary eyes
Don't try
And justify
To rescue you
Like you always do
You always do
(Call out my name)
(Why do you call)
It reminds you
(Why do you call)
(Call out my name)
(Why do you call)
(This is your easy way out)
Here it comes
Here it comes
I can see it all from here
To break your bones
Break your bones
And make you
Turn away
From your sins
I know just
Where you've been
Go rescue you
Oh
Like you always do
You always do
(Why do you call)
(Call out my name)
(Why do you call)
It reminds you
(Why do you call)
(Call out my name)
(Why do you call)
(This is your easy way out)
Here it comes
Here it comes
I can see it all from here
To break your bones
Break your bones
And make you disappear
And you let it find you
You let it find you
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes
Breaking I fall
Far from faithful
Why do you call
(Call out my name)
Why do you call
Why do you call
(Call out my name)
Why do you call
Here it comes
Here it comes
I can see it all from here
To break your bones
Break your bones
And make you disappear
And you let it find you
You let it find you
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes
The lyrics to Fire & Forget's song "No Way Out" explore the idea of escaping from one's own mistakes and sins, but ultimately realizing that there is no easy way out. The singer urges the listener to "look away" and not try to justify their actions or seek rescue from their wrongdoings. The repetition of the line "You always do" suggests that the listener has a pattern of seeking an escape or making the same mistakes repeatedly.
The chorus asks why the listener calls out the singer's name, implying that they are seeking comfort or seeking someone to blame for their actions. The line "This is your easy way out" further emphasizes that the listener is looking for a quick and effortless solution to their problems, rather than taking responsibility for their actions.
The second verse continues with the theme of the listener's sins and urges them to turn away from their wrongdoings. The line "I know just where you've been" suggests that the singer is aware of the mistakes the listener has made and emphasizes the need for personal accountability.
The repetition of the chorus highlights the inevitability of the consequences of one's actions, symbolized by breaking bones and disappearing. The line "And you let it find you" implies that the listener has allowed these consequences to catch up with them.
Overall, "No Way Out" portrays the struggle to escape from one's own mistakes and highlights the importance of self-reflection and taking responsibility for one's actions.
