1. F… Read Full Bio ↴There are four artists who use or have used the name Fireflies:
1. Fireflies is Lisle Mitnik. He grew up in the tundras of New England playing classical piano and one day moved to California to go to school and decided to start writing songs. He bought a portastudio and started recording, combining his love for lo-fi indie recordings of the 1980s and 90s with his unrefined knowledge of classical arrangement. He tries to craft each song into a tiny snow-globe-sized universe you can curl up in and get lost for a little while.
2. Fireflies is also the name of a pop-punk band from New York City who offer plenty of group photos on their MySpace.
3. The Fireflies were also a doo-wop group from Philadelphia. Formed in 1957, they lasted for a decade before disbanding in 1967.
4. fireflies were also a shoegazey punk group from Champaign, Illinois, active from 2004-2007.
You Were Mine
Fireflies Lyrics

You were mine (you were mine) You were mine (you were mine)
You were really, really mine
And I know that our love was a love of true love
Like a bird on the wing when he know it's early Spring
You were mine (you were mine) You were mine (you were mine)
You were really, really mine
But now, since you're gone, I'm so sad and alone
Rememb'ing the love that we had for our own
Now I'll go on my way thinking of that lovely day
You were mine (you were mine) You were mine (you were mine)
You were really, really mine
And I know that our love was a love of true love
Now I'll go on my way thinking of that lovely day
You were mine (you were mine) You were mine (you were mine)
You were really, really mine
And I know (and I know) that our love (that our love) was a love of true love
And I know (and I know) that our love (that our love) was a love of true love
And I know (and I know) that our
love (that our love) was a love of true love, but now it's gone and the singer is left sad and alone, reminiscing about the love they had for their own. The opening line "You were mine at the time and the feeling was sublime" sets the tone for the rest of the song. It speaks to a moment in time where everything felt right, where they found their person and they were truly together as one. The repetition of "you were mine" emphasizes the significance of this person to the singer and how they are a part of them, even if they are no longer together.
The analogy of the bird on the wing in the second verse speaks to the fleeting feeling of love and how it can come and go like the seasons. It highlights the importance of appreciating the moment and cherishing the time spent with loved ones. The line "And I know that our love was a love of true love" further emphasizes the depth of their connection and how it was a real and authentic love.
Overall, the song speaks to the bittersweet feeling of reminiscing on a past love and recognizing the beauty that was once there, even if it has since ended.
