"I clearly remember how Fireside started. All of us were huge hardcore fans and listened to bands like Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today, and when the guitarist of Gorilla Biscuits started a new band called Quicksand I pre-ordered a seven-inch single. When it arrived I phoned Pelle Gunnerfelt and he biked from the other side of town to my home and we listened to it together, and the first thing we said was “We’re starting a new band and it’s gonna sound like this” (laughs). That was the decisive moment when Fireside started; Quicksand were the role models together with Fugazi. "
Having released five albums to date, Fireside have since developed a personal style. Their most recent album, Get Shot, was released in 2003 via V2 Records.
Let Rasputin Do It
Fireside Lyrics

from the lake to the mountaintop takes forever on icy roads
we ain't saying nothing.we're starying at the clouds with tired eyes
too many hours like these messes up everything
and her picture before my eyes stuck somewhere in between
trapped with each other and the car around
we're shutting each other out with tired eyes
the landscape is beautiful, horses are pitiful
and her picture before my eyes won't let go no matter how i try
and i ain't doing nothing but staring at the clouds
so lonesome in this crowd we're shutting each other out
The verses of Fireside's song, Let Rasputin Do It, evoke a sense of boredom, aimlessness and isolation amidst stunning but barren landscapes. The singer reflects on a journey that feels endless and tense, marked by gray lanes and icy roads that make the hours drag on. The only thing to do is stare at the clouds, an act that speaks to a lack of purpose or direction. As the singer and their companion are trapped in the car together, they seem to grow further apart, shutting each other out with their tired eyes. This is underscored by the repeated line "and her picture before my eyes", which describes a persistent memory or feeling that haunts the singer.
