The Chain
Fleetwood Mac Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies

And if, you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

Listen to the wind blow, down comes the night
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies
Break the silence, damn the dark, damn the light

And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)

Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Fleetwood Mac's song The Chain are about the complexities and difficulties of relationships, particularly romantic ones. The first verse describes the struggle of trying to run away from the pain and hurt caused by a love that has turned sour, while the second verse emphasizes the need to confront and address the issues head-on rather than hiding from them. The chorus, repeated three times throughout the song, speaks to the idea of a chain that binds people together, for better or for worse. It suggests that even when love fades, the connection between two people can remain, and that connection can be powerful and unbreakable.

The lyrics are open to interpretation, but they are often seen as a reflection of the tumultuous romantic relationships within the band at the time of the song's creation. The band was going through a period of upheaval, with breakups, divorces, and new relationships all happening simultaneously. The song is believed to have been written as a collaborative effort by all five members of Fleetwood Mac, with each contributing lyrics and music to create the final product.

Overall, the lyrics to The Chain speak to the universal experience of love and loss, and the way that relationships can be both uplifting and destructive at the same time. They capture the tension and complexity of trying to hold onto a love that may no longer be healthy or viable, and the deep emotional ties that can bind people together even after they have parted ways.

Just watching Stevie face her body AWAY from the crowd and sing directly to Lindsey.. chills. This whole show was filled with rekindled anger, hurt, and passion and I love it

Besides that their live performances like this one are even better than the studio-recordings. Unforgettable stuff on every level, the vocals, drums etc with LB's brilliant guitar play.

@shanon rowland Каждему своё!Нечего не изменить без Бога!Никто ничего не изменит без Бога!

@shanon rowland you can sell a billion albums and make all the money you want, humans are still humans. No amount of money or fame can heal your soul.

Jacob Anderson

DUDE I literally was thinking the same exact thing, she's singing the chorus directly too him ""You would never break the chain"

Me Myself and I

Pretty sure it was theatrics at that point for the audience. They wouldn't have gotten back together as a band if it were that bad. They both went their own ways way before this concert.

I know everyone is revisiting Fleetwood Mac's music since the sad passing of Christine, RIP!!! But watching the way Lindsey Buckingham plays guitar is utterly unbelievable every time I see him play!!!!

@Tray Daniel which one?

Andrea Newland

He is one of the most underrated guitarists, IMO.

Vectra Automation

This is one of those song verisons that simply beats its original studio recording. Lindsey B's lead guitar is just outstanding in this version.
