Flogging Molly Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This loney exsistence may use the way
For the hard of hearts must beat be brave
While this quite lightning storm
Wreaks the harvest gold we try to sow
So it begins
The way the light still dances beneath
the skin there the messenger from hell since were bound to win
As the days do come but the years do go
So take care of your freedom you'll never know

I sit on the wing for a blackbird song
To tell me were and when this all went wrong
There's no resolution without remorse
Ignorence blist ye fin let state of course
Puncture the skin and see his blood run cold on desert sand
Come hear the meant for mothers with childless hands
As the days do come but the years do go
So take care of your freedom you'll never know
Take good care of your freedom you'll never know

Take what you give until theres nothing left but everlive
And night this is on shadows and after kill
As the days do come and the years do go
So take care of your freedom you'll never know
Yeah take good care of your freedom you'll never know

The days do come but the years do go
So take care of you freedom you'll never know

Overall Meaning

The Lightning Storm by Flogging Molly speaks about the challenges of one's existence: the hard-hearted must be brave and persevere through the difficult times. The lightning storm is a metaphor for these challenges and how they can disrupt the growth of our harvest, which represents our endeavors and the fruits of our labor. The song suggests that we must push through these obstacles to ensure that our harvest is successful. The lightning storm is representative of both the adversity we face in life and the beauty that can be found amidst that chaos.

The lyrics also stress the importance of freedom, as it can be easily lost if one is not careful. The song implies that if we don't pay attention and willfully fight for our freedom, we could lose it at any moment. The lyrics suggest that we must protect our freedom, cherish it, and be grateful for it.

The line, "I sit on the wing for a blackbird song," speaks to the desire for resolution and understanding, and the uncertainty of when it will come. The song conveys that it is important to take care of oneself, but also to be mindful of the impact that our individual actions have on others.

This lonely existence paves the way
For the heart of hearts must beat be brave
While this quiet lightning storm
Wrecks the harvest gold we tried to sow

So it begins, the way the blood still dances beneath the skin
As the messenger from hell says we're bound to win
As the days, they come, but the years, they go
So take care of your freedom they'll never know

I sit on the wing for a blackbird's song
To tell me where and when this all went wrong
There's no resolution without remorse
With ignorance, bliss, defend, let's stay the course
Puncture the skin and see its blood run cold on desert sand
Come hear the men from mothers with childless hands
As the days, they come, but the years, they go
So take care of your freedom they'll never know

Take good care of your freedom
They'll never know

Take what you give until there is nothing left, but forever live
And night descends on shadows without their kill
As the days, they come, but the years, they go
So take care of your freedom they'll never know

Yeah, take good care of your freedom
They'll never know

As the days, they come
But the years, they go
So take care of your freedom
They'll never know

What happened to video of the live performance from the Greek Theater?

@ianh1504

It feels like this song is directed toward the people in america and sit back and cheer the many wars in the middle east, and its telling them to "take good care of the freedom theyll never know" like you should safeguard the freedom that allows us to casually sit back and watch the slaughter unfold it always brings a tear to my eye and i pretend like im not crying but damn man
