In a 2009 interview, Florence spoke of the recording process of the song:
We projected a massive moon on the side of the wall… And turned all the lights off… We made the moon go on the ceiling and I had to lie on a bed and mutter.

A tourist in the waking world, never quite awake
No kiss, no gentle word could wake me from this slumber
Until I realize that it was you who held me under
Felt it in my fist, in my feet, in the hollows of my eyelids
Shaking through my skull, through my spine and down through my ribs
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world
And I could hear the thunder and see the lightning crack
And all around the world was waking, I never could go back
'Cause all the walls of dreaming, they were torn right open
And finally it seemed that the spell was broken
And all my bones began to shake, my eyes flew open
And all my bones began to shake, my eyes flew open
No more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world
Snow white's stitching up the circuit boards
Synapse's slipping through the hidden door
Snow white's stitching up your circuit board
No more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world
Snow white's stitching up the circuit boards
Synapse's slipping through the hidden door
Snow white's stitching up your circuit board
Synapse's slipping through the hidden door
In “Blinding”, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine sings about being held in a dream-like state and dreaming of the dead until she realizes it was a person who held her under. The song takes on a melancholic and pensive tone as Welch repeats the phrase “no more dreaming,” indicating a sense of relief from the suffering she had been experiencing prior in the song. As the song progresses, Welch becomes more aware of the world around her and realizes that it’s time to move on from the past and the darkness she had been trapped in.
The opening lines of the song present Welch as if she has been trapped in a dream-like state that she can’t escape from. She’s been held in a state of constant slumber without ever fully living in the present world. The repeated reference to dreaming of the dead is significant and possibly indicative of Welch’s struggles with mental health or perhaps her past. However, the tone changes as Welch becomes more aware of the world around her, and the imagery pivots.
In the later verses, Welch sings about Snow White stitching up circuit boards and synapses slipping through hidden doors, creating an abstract image of a futuristic world. This imagery could suggest advancements in technology and the concept of enhancing or improving the human mind. By the end of the song, Welch seems to have fully emerged from her dream-like state and is aware of the changes happening in the world around her.
Overall, “Blinding” is an introspective and powerful song about overcoming a dream-like state and coming into full consciousness. It’s a track that encourages listeners to embrace reality and not get lost in their own dreams or the past.

This is still the best song she's ever had. I don't think she'll top this one. Lungs was full of so many great songs like Blinding, Drumming Song, Rabbit Heart, Cosmic Love, Hurricane Drunk... Blinding is such a massive sounding song. It's so strong.
