Drifting

Too weak and too tired to move
I’m just drifting down the river
Towards you towards you
All of my efforts all of my trying
All my overthinking in vain
All of the treasures I tried to keep safe
Everything the flood washed away
Too weak and too tired to move
I’m just drifting down the river
Towards you towards you
Pour me another glass off wine
Say a toast to all we left behind
I’m finding solace in the simple things in life
While my thoughts are wandering back in time
Like a dead man in the water
Too weak and too tired to move
I’m just drifting down the river
Towards you towards you
Uuuh lay yourself down
Uuuh when the money runs out
Uuuh let the tide come
Uuuh what will be will be
Like a dead man in the water
Too weak and too tired to move
I’m just drifting down the river
Towards you towards you
The lyrics of Florian Ostertag's song "Drifting" depict a sense of surrender and resignation, as the singer compares himself to a dead man in the water, too weak and tired to move. The repetition of the phrase "drifting down the river towards you" suggests a sense of inevitability, as if the singer is being pulled towards a certain destination or person. Despite his efforts, overthinking, and attempts to hold onto treasures, everything he has tried to keep safe gets washed away by the flood.
The second verse introduces a bittersweet tone, as the singer seeks solace in simple things and reminisces about the past. Pouring another glass of wine and toasting to what has been left behind serves as a way to find comfort and acceptance. The line "while my thoughts are wandering back in time" suggests that the singer is caught between the present moment and memories of the past, reflecting on what has brought him to this point of drifting.
The chorus is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the singer's state of inertia and lack of control. The phrase "like a dead man in the water" conveys a deep sense of powerlessness and resignation.
Overall, "Drifting" portrays a feeling of being carried along by life's currents, unable to resist or change the course. It explores themes of surrender, acceptance, and finding solace in the present moment despite the weight of the past.
