Odium
Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

a summer dawn, this red familiar strain
a rusty nail cracked in a wall
unreal the scene to leave with the morning train
while in crowds of grey you walk

{on and on the line}

so close your eyes
and touch the odium
in deep sea skies
the searing odium
meshworks crawl
to feed the odium
a screw inside...

indifferent eyes, a milky window pane
a distant movie worn and strung
sonambulistic tool, take a walk in the summer rain
besides illuminating songs

{of iconoclast kind}

So close your eyes....

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers' song "Odium" paint a picture of disconnection and alienation, with the singer feeling detached from the world and struggling to find meaning in their existence. The opening lines describe a red strain that feels familiar but also unsettling, like a rusty nail cracked in a wall. The imagery suggests a sense of decay and corrosion, as well as a feeling of being trapped or imprisoned.

As the song continues, the singer observes people around them walking in crowds of grey, suggesting a lack of individuality and a conformity that feels suffocating. The repeated refrain to "close your eyes and touch the odium" suggests that the singer is inviting the listener to experience the same sense of disgust and disillusionment that they are feeling. The lines about "deep sea skies" and "searing odium" suggest a sense of intensity and emotion that borders on the overwhelming - the odium becomes a powerful force that cannot be ignored.

Simply superb. You cannot find music like this anymore. Flowing Tears were one of the better acts in the 'goth-metal' genre. The style of this track and LP was continued to an extent on their next release 'Jade' while cultivating a harder more streamlined sound. Also released was an EP that has 'love will tear us apart' by Joy Division - must hear. After that EP and Jade most members departed and the style replaced by the harder sound although still better than most goth-metal girl acts.
