Tube Disaster
Flux of Pink Indians Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I love tube disasters
I wanna marry a tube disaster
I want another one like the last one
'Cause I live for tube disasters, yeah

Build up some speed, don't shut your eyes
Make sure that everyone in the train dies
You don't get no prize, no time to say goodbyes
Just smile everyone, you'll be on TV tonight, that's right

I love tube disasters
I wanna marry a tube disaster
I want another one like the last one
'Cause I live for tube disasters, yeah

Go through a wall, forget about the brake
It's so much easier than the pills you can take
I go through moorgate and I'm wide awake
But no bloody driver's gone and made a mistake, that's yet
Is it me that needs a home?
Not likely, vicarious of living rids your boredom

I love tube disasters
I wanna marry a tube disaster

I want another one like the last one
Cause I live for tube disasters, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Flux of Pink Indians' song "Tube Disaster" are deliberately provocative and meant to shock listeners. The song speaks to a fascination with disasters and the desire to witness them - in this case, specifically referring to train or subway accidents. The lyrics seem to be sung from the perspective of someone who is hoping for a tube disaster to occur, expressing a desire for another event like the last one.

The lyrics describe the thrill of the disaster, urging people not to close their eyes, suggesting that everyone in the train will die, and even implying that being on TV as a witness to the event would make it all worthwhile. It is important to note that the lyrics are not meant to be taken literally, but rather as a commentary on our society's obsession with sensationalized tragedy.

The song can be seen as a critique of our culture’s preoccupation with tragedy and destruction. It exposes the societal fascination and appetite for disaster and crisis as a source of twisted pleasure.

The bass line is pure power, The drums are aggression manifest.

I was in a punk band called Hex, based in Sunderland, I'm pretty sure we supported them amongst a host of other punk bands at the bunker, the memories will never fade, I'm still playing drums today, and often cast my mind back to where it all began!

Wow! You were in Hex? Used to have that crow on my leather!! Awsome band. Not too many in California were listening to hex in the late 80s. Saludos from Baja

I saw them play their first gig with Crass and Poison Girls at some community hall in London. There was hardly anyone there and Vi Subversa from the Poison Girls came to talk to me. I was so young that I didn't know what to say to her and she got annoyed with me and said "You haven't got a clue about what we're trying to do" and Pete Wright from Crass came running over and said "He's a kid. Leave him alone". Looking back I can see her point but you have to give teenagers time to absorb and grow. Now I do know what they were trying to do and deeply respect that.

Class War at Wapping when the police drove a caged JCB into the crowd (very slowly though just to break up the protesters - yeah I don't think it would be fair to give the impression of murderous intent - see the death of the reggae artist Smiley Culture for one example of murder by the police) - skinheads attacking Crass at Reading Town Hall - Hells Angels attacking Crass at Stonehenge - yes I was there and now we're all here on YouTube. I am an Anarchist.

A little extra info on what happened at Reading Town Hall. The National Front skinheads were selling their Bulldog magazine outside before the gig started. When I turned up I bought a copy because being a young coloured punk I wanted to be cocky. The Crass roadie or whoever it was at the door started shouting at me not to talk to them and when he saw me purchase the magazine he had a little moan at me as I entered the hall. Ironically the skinhead who sold me the magazine started laughing - I guess he found it funny that a coloured punk was buying Bulldog. The skinheads outside all purchased tickets and entered the hall which was full of punks. The support bands played and at first it was calm and then one of the skinheads jumped on stage. I think it was one of the roadies who came and tried to remove him from the stage. The Crass collective are pacifists and I remember either the roadie or someone else knelt before this skinhead pleading with him to leave the stage and he kicked him. Then as fast as a flash someone came out of the side-wing and punched the skinhead - it was Steve Ignorant - I guess he'd seen enough and decided to do something though the roadies and band members intervened quickly. Then some of the punks in the crowd had enough and started fighting with the skinheads. As quickly as it started the fighting subsided. Crass played and the skinheads stayed but no more trouble. A true story.

+TheEyeThatSees You are lucky to be there at the "begining" of all this movement, so much great bands were playing! Would give anything to be there at this time as living this. There is still some great bands today with great spirits and all but this time seemed like it was a blast! Thanks for your story, still nice the heard stuff like this!

Do you have more written about the stuff you saw back in the day??? This is some good stuff, you have a good narrative style

Trojan Skinhead

+TheEyeThatSees can i just clarify that although dressed as skinheads fash do not represent my sub culture. im a Skinhead with a big crass tattoo on me arm, veggie, anarchist and reared on crass, reggae and soul. real Skins are not NF or fascist.

VincentRE79

Yes but what did they really achieve? They were just preaching to the converted with their style of music, look at it now we have Crass album reissues & the Steve Ignorant cabaret show etc. The Clash achieved far more in my opinion politicising a generation.
