Hunger
Flying Lotus (feat. Niki Randa) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I breathe
I breathe it
Leading me in a space between
Awareness and instinct
Beating from within my body's cage
I've hungered for you for too long to stop now
The lyrics to Flying Lotus (feat. Niki Randa)'s song Hunger speak of an intense desire that has been building up within the persona for a long time. The scent in the air fuels that longing and leads her to a space between her awareness and instincts where her yearning becomes even more palpable. The metaphor of a beating heart trapped within a body's cage heightens the intensity of the hunger.
The song's lyrics draw parallels between the persona's physical hunger and her emotional desire for someone. The lines "I've hungered for you for too long to stop now" clearly signify that this desire has not been fulfilled for a long time, and she has reached a stage where stopping is not an option. The song captures the essence of a raw and intense longing that's unstoppable and all-consuming.

I can tell you the story of when I first heard this song
I was going to the office at work for a meeting, it was the first time I was hearing the album and this song came on on my headphones. it played the first few seconds of the second movement and I got a phone call. it was quite early in the morning so I was tired I turned off the music and went to the meeting.
Afterward, I was walking home thinking and praying that, that few seconds I heard was sooooooo dope and so short (didn't know it was a full song yet cos I didn't listen to all of it ) it was either some sort of interlude or an idea I made in my head FROM THE FEW SECONDS I HEARD (as a producer myself that does happen to me from time to time)....
I skipped thru the album on the walk home over and over again thinking I would find it and when I didn't I got happy cos I thought I could make that song and not feel bad...
then when I was cleaning my house I put the album on again and there it was I was both happy and PISSED!!! cos that meant I couldn't do it.. but I'm glad now I don't think I could have ever made anything as beautiful as the second part of hunger from flying lotus. one of my favorite all-time pieces of music, he did so many beautiful things with it.
then I found out the guitar was a sample... madness!! hip hop samplers are not just boom bappers folks
Then I fell in love with the lead-up. Eventually, the whole piece spoke to me in a way that I can't be assed to even attempt to articulate here
But all I will say is I love this piece. DEEPLY. it taught me a lot about making music as a whole and totally being fearless and unpredictable...
salute to flying lotus for the lesson.
thank you...

This is one of the most religious pieces from Flylo's discography. Sensations of fire emerge in my heart and stomach, strangely bringing me a physical and metaphorical hunger. But, what do I hunger for? The impact of this song on my physiology leaves me astonished as to how powerful Flylo's craft is. This is one of the most underrated of his songs.
