My Hero
Foo Fighters (Backing Track) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Too alarmin' now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out?
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Kudos, my hero, leavin' all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes

There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "My Hero" by Foo Fighters seem to be about the idea of heroism, and the ways in which people perceive those they look up to. The opening lines suggest that the subject matter is too troubling or overwhelming to address directly, perhaps implying that heroism is a complicated and challenging concept. The line "take your pictures down and shake it out" could be interpreted in a few ways - possibly suggesting that we need to let go of idealized images of our heroes, or perhaps indicating a sense of disillusionment or disappointment in someone we once admired.

The lyrics then move into a discussion of "truth or consequence", which seems to call into question the idea of heroism and whether it is based on genuine merit or simply a matter of perception. The lines "don't the best of them bleed it out, while the rest of them peter out?" suggest that some people have what it takes to truly be heroic, while others simply fade away. The chorus repeats the line "there goes my hero, watch him as he goes," which could be seen as a wistful or nostalgic statement - acknowledging the passing of time and the inevitability of heroes eventually fading into memory.

Overall, "My Hero" is a complex exploration of the idea of heroism, and how we perceive and honor those who embody it in our lives.

My son and I was supposed to spend the summer learning this song. He was a drummer and I was a on guitar. My 12 year old son Tristan Van Lu passed away on 3/22/23. He was the best drummer I have ever met, he was my hero. I rocked this song out at his funeral, it was the last time I will ever touch a guitar again. Played until my fingers bled my boy!. I love you so much my son, my best friend I will never forget you and will never stop missing you my son....
