Dead
Fools For Rowan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I could borrow all my tomorrows,
Spend them all today, I'm sure I'd find a way
to get you back.
But my frustration, desperation
Is causing me to wither underneath a sky
turned black.
It hurts to breathe,
I can't believe I have to face the moment that
I dread.

We're dead, we're over,
Over just like that
The love is gone, gone forever
And it's not coming back

Your heart and my heart, you ripped them apart.
But there's still pieces of you that you've gone
and left behind.
You don't want me, but you still haunt me.
I lie awake 'cause I'm afraid that if I close my eyes
I'll see your face, feel that pain,
The pain I felt the moment that you said

We're dead, we're over,
Over just like that
The love is gone, gone forever
And it's not coming back

It hurts to breathe, I can't believe, I close my
eyes but I just can't forget.
I see your face, feel the pain,
The pain I felt the moment that you said

We're dead, we're over,
Over just like that

The love is gone, gone forever
And it's not coming back

Overall Meaning

In "Dead," Fools For Rowan's lead singer, Erin Mullins, sings about the pain of a love lost. She wishes she could go back in time and do things differently, but knows that there's no way to bring back what's gone. The opening lines express her desire to have more time to spend with the person she's lost, indicating that she didn't appreciate the time they had until it was gone. Mullins' frustration, desperation, and hurt are palpable in the lyrics, which convey her sense of loss and longing for what once was.

The song's chorus ("We're dead, we're over, over just like that / The love is gone, gone forever / And it's not coming back") reinforces the idea that the relationship is truly over and that there's no going back. Mullins' use of repetition, particularly in the lines "The love is gone, gone forever / And it's not coming back," drives home the finality of the situation. With lines like "Your heart and my heart, you ripped them apart / But there's still pieces of you that you've gone and left behind," Mullins shows that the pain of the lost love is still very real and present, even if she knows it's time to move on.

Overall, "Dead" is a powerful reflection on the aftermath of a failed relationship, exploring the emotional pain that comes with heartbreak and the process of moving on.

So many unappreciated talents it breaks my heart, just like this song. I think I have found a new obsession. This is a part of music I don't want to be lost because we are losing so many wonderful voices, and hear things that are childish now a days. This song speaks of loss not break ups, LOSS. Which in my opinion is far more painful and finally given credit that we have love and lost to that which cannot be won.

The lyrics are so emotional, it explains my situation with my divorce, fell out of love with my ex....so this to me is an amazing expression of emotion and pain.
