Are these your waves
From across the sea
I knew that you would call me
Feel the salt
When the shore breaks
Your words echo off the oceans that surround me
Drowning in silence
I look toward the skyline
And see another shoreline
No man's an island
We all can walk on water
To visit one another
Drowning in silence
I look toward the skyline
And see another shoreline
No man's an island
We all can walk on water
To visit one another
Would you go
Out of your way
If I told you we are part of the same story
We'll be whole
Maybe one day
Build a bridge over the islands that divide me
Drowning in silence
I look toward the skyline
And see another shoreline
No man's an island
We all can walk on water
To visit one another
Drowning in silence
I look toward the skyline
And see another shoreline
No man's an island
We all can walk on water
To visit one another
The song "Islands" by Forester is a reflective and touching ballad about the deep longing for connection and understanding, despite being physically apart. The song opens with the singer questioning the whereabouts of someone they miss and wondering if the waves they see across the sea are theirs. The singer expresses their hope and intuition that the missed person will reach out to them. The singer then describes the feeling of being surrounded by the vast ocean, feeling the salt, and hearing the words echoing around them, yet still feeling a sense of drowning in silence.
The chorus talks about the realization that no one is an island and that we all have the ability to connect with each other despite living on different islands. The idea of walking on water is used as a metaphor for being able to reach out and visit each other, despite the physical barriers that may separate us. The song then goes on to propose the idea of building a bridge over the islands that divide them, with the hope of becoming whole and sharing the same story.
The lyrics are very poetic and use metaphors that help convey the sense of separation and yearning for connection. The song also has a beautiful melody that adds to the emotional impact of the lyrics. Overall, "Islands" is a moving and poignant song that speaks to the human need for connection and understanding.
