The Magdalene
Foxing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm going down with the rosary
Tongue pressed on guilt from a dove in my teeth
I could watch it drip down and cover my skin
The taste of Christ sits still while I swallow your insides
I could let it drag you down to cover our sins
If I could lift you off the ground they'd cry out that this is what love is
When they unravel the webs that I've spun
What shall be undone?
When they unravel the webs that I've spun
What shall be undone?
Mother of God on the rosary
So is she here with us?
Does she want what she sees?
Watch me come undone
Watch me come undone
When God unravels the webs that I've spun
What shall be undone?

When God unravels the webs that I've spun
What shall be undone?

Overall Meaning

The Foxing song "The Magdalene" is a haunting and introspective piece that touches on themes of guilt, sin, and redemption. The opening lines "I'm going down with the rosary" immediately establish a tone of despair and religious symbolism. The singer seems to be grappling with their own sense of guilt and shame, expressed through the use of a religious symbol like the rosary.

The reference to a dove in their teeth is another biblical allusion, as the dove is often a symbol of peace and divinity. Yet here, it seems to have a sinister connotation, with the singer using it to press on their own guilt. The line "I could let it drag you down to cover our sins" suggests that perhaps the singer is not alone in their feelings of sin, and that there is someone else they feel responsible for or connected to.

As the song progresses, the singer becomes more and more desperate, asking questions like "So is she here with us? / Does she want what she sees?" in reference to the Mother of God. The repetition of the phrase "watch me come undone" hints at a sense of unraveling or losing control, both in terms of their own emotions and their relationship to their faith.

Overall, the lyrics of "The Magdalene" are deeply introspective, grappling with complex themes in a way that is both personal and universal.

Foxing's music is the definition of beauty

such a raw and emotional band. They bring in a lot of elements from different genres too. Like they're very funky for an emo band, and theres a lot of math rocky riffs in some of their songs. Their sound kinda reminds me of Radiohead's In Rainbows if the album was cowritten by Brand New.

Honestly I like this album a lot more than The Albatross. Each song is so emotional and painful to listen in such a great way. The arrangements and composition are so goddamn perfect. Even the melodies he sings are so tasteful. I loved The Albatross and how weird and cool the songs were but this album speaks to me so much more. You can tell that they really dug deep for this album and pulled out some hard stuff to sing about.

his voice is imperfect and that add so much depth and emotion to their music

So good. This band is everything right now. I'm going to enjoy them while they are my little secret. I see huge things in their future and they deserve it all.
