In 1999, Foxy Brown made history as the first female rapper to have a number 1 album with Chyna Doll selling over 173,000 copies in the first week.
In 2005, while in the midst of recording her studio album Black Roses, Brown faced another hardship when she was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss. The hearing impairment took 100% of Brown's hearing, but 20% was restored after an operation to repair it. After her fifth surgery Foxy regained 99.9% of her hearing.
Following a relatively quiet career period which coincided with an eight month jail sentence in 2008, Foxy continued to record the long in-progress Black Roses with a projected release date of late 2010. Ultimately, Black Roses was never released.
In 2018, after years of hiatus, Brown was a featured artist on Nicki Minaj's fourth studio album Queen on the track "Coco Chanel".

Yeah, you know its been a long time since y'all heard my voice
Maybe what, 2, 3, years or somethin'
Up and down been high and low
Even been at the point of no return, no hope
Just want to let my fans know that I'm still here
Y'all holla back
The sound was broken, too many years being political
Its kinda hard to do when everything your seeing is critical
Is all my fault what they said in the news
But its funny how the public seems to get it confused
They act like they ain't got nothin' better to do
All they want is a statement, the hattin' is blatin'
But we never paid attention to those who hate us
Til my face was on the cover of all the local papers
But still un-phased, I kept my cool
Plottin, carefully, every step I choose
And my, Cool-whit poin, and my write finery
Everybody want to know my side of the story
Well here it is, the whole truth, plain and simple
This'll finally explain all the pain I've been through
And in no way shape or form of my provoken violence
Please try to understand my "Broken Silence"
The lyrics to Foxy Brown’s song “Intro-Broken Silence” serve as a commentary on the controversy and legal issues that surrounded the rapper in the early 2000s. The song opens with several news reports of Brown’s various run-ins with the law, including her arrest for a hotel altercation, a shooting outside a radio station, and a hospitalization for an overdose. Brown then reflects on her absence from the rap scene and acknowledges the criticism and scrutiny she has faced from the media and public. She asserts that despite these challenges, she has remained resilient and is ready to address her experiences in her music.
The lyrics highlight Brown’s struggles as a prominent female rapper in a male dominated industry and her efforts to maintain her dignity and credibility despite the obstacles thrown her way. Brown’s candidness about her personal and legal issues ultimately make the song a powerful commentary on the realities of being a public figure in the music industry.

Its kinda hard to do when everything your seeing is critical

But its funny how the public seems to get it confused
Foxy Brown's music has been hampered by the politics of the music industry that's difficult to sustain when things are being scrutinized on a larger scale. The news stories that allegedly paint her in a negative light aren't entirely due to her, but it's remarkable how the public gets the story mixed up.
