Beefhearts…It would be presumptuous to make such a bold statement about Paul
Hogan, who’s the mastermind behind Frances, but it doesn’t seem too far off, either. A frighteningly talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist… he’s the kind of musical mind you don’t want to doubt." – The L Magazine

Let It Out
Frances Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We had so much of us still to find
With our young and innocent minds
So beautifully blind
It's a pretty rare happiness that we know
And a pretty cold sadness if it goes
The fear of falling too far away
So out of reach that you can't catch me one day
All this glitter and dust
Flying 'round the words in our mouths
Can't stay, let it out, yeah, let it out
Everything and even nothing
I feel your tears in my eyes
Looking out, waiting for a chance
To break, let it out, yeah, let it out
Everything I need for nothing
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
Is it just my own heavy head
That's making me so cold in your bed?
I used to feel like nothing could touch us
Maybe you feel the same
It's a pretty rare happiness that we know
And a pretty cold sadness if it goes
The longer we pretend it's alright
We'll start exploding and be too weak to fight
All this glitter and dust
Flying 'round the words in our mouths
Can't stay, let it out, let it out
Everything and even nothing
I feel your tears in my eyes
Looking out, waiting for a chance
To break, let it out, you let it out
Everything and even nothing
Even if you think it's nothing
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
All this glitter and dust
Flying 'round the words in our mouths
Can't stay, let it out, let it out
Everything and even nothing
I feel your tears in my eyes
Looking out, waiting for a chance
To break, let it out, you let it out
Everything and even nothing
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
Frances's song Let It Out explores the theme of emotional suppression and the fear of vulnerability within a relationship. The opening lines "Little did we know at the time, we had so much of us still to find" suggest a sense of naivety and youthfulness, and how the singer is learning about herself and her partner in the process of their relationship. The contrast between "the fear of falling too far away" and "so out of reach that you can't catch me one day" speaks to the uncertainty and fragility of love, and how it can slip away if not tended to.
The chorus, "All this glitter and dust, flying 'round the words in our mouths, can't stay, let it out, yeah, let it out" is a metaphor that captures the emotions that are continually bubbling up inside of the singer. The use of the word "glitter" conjures images of beauty and happiness, whereas "dust" has negative connotations of decay and insignificance. Together, they represent the myriad of emotions that exist within the singer's mind. The repetition of "let it out" reinforces the theme of the suppression of emotions and the need to be vulnerable with your partner.
The second verse delves deeper into the singer's sense of isolation and doubt within the relationship. "Is it just my own heavy head that's making me so cold in your bed?" suggests that she feels alone and separated from her partner, but isn't sure whether it's just a figment of her imagination. The fear of losing the connection and the beauty of the relationship is expressed in the lines "The longer we pretend it's alright, we'll start exploding and be too weak to fight."
Overall, Frances's Let It Out is a poignant portrayal of the vulnerability and fear that can exist within a relationship. The singer is grappling with the desire to express herself fully and the fear of being rejected by her partner. Ultimately, the song is a call to action, a plea to "let it out" and embrace the fullness of life.

@Ryan Park Sure thing i also love exciting music..but! When they all just tall about sex, drugs, and all that well ot sucks
Ryan Park
@Omar Covarrubias No No..You don't have to think like that.
Maybe you're talking about hip-hop or other provocative songs, but those songs also have musicality in themselves and are the results of the artists' outstanding inspiration and tremendous efforts. I also like heart-warming songs like Frances, but not all music needs to be touching or serious. Some songs are worth it just because they are exciting to listen to.
