"Quo-lite", perhaps, but Francis Rossi is a truly great songwriter and his talents go far beyond the Quo sound. Expect highly melodic adult rock, laced with infectious boogie rock back-beats and some ballads.
Not easy to put into a box - Francis doesn't really sound like anyone else, except on his songs that are a bit Quo-ish!

Sinking in Blue

It ain’t easy getting through now day to day
My friends all come by and their company
It’s so good for me, that they do
But I know that I’m sinking in blue
I remember the smile in your eyes
And the sound of your voice now you’re gone
And I’m thinking I’ll just carry on
Oh I know I’m not the first one to be feeling
Like the only one to be left out in the rain
If I get a chance I’ll be on again
Get along again, without you
But I know that I’m sinking in blue
I remember the smile in your eyes
And the sound of your voice now you’re gone
And I’m thinking and sinking and drinking my heart out
And I’m thinking I’ll just carry on
People may say that I’m lost in a bubble
I’m heading for trouble
But they don’t understand
People may say that I’m lost in a bubble
I’m heading for trouble
But they don’t understand
Oh I remember the smile in your eyes
And the sound of your voice now you’re gone
Now I’m thinking and sinking and drinking my heart out
And I’m thinking I’ll just carry on
Oh I’m thinking and sinking and drinking my heart out
And I’m thinking I’ll just carry on
And I’m thinking I’ll just carry on
The song "Sinking in Blue" by Francis Rossi is a poignant and melancholic song about heartbreak and loss. The opening lines convey the singer's struggle to cope with everyday life after experiencing a painful breakup. The verse "It's been so hard getting up in the morning, It ain't easy getting through now day to day" depicts the emotional turmoil and depression that the singer is experiencing. He finds solace in his friends' company, but deep down, he knows that he's still struggling to deal with the absence of his love interest.
The chorus of the song reflects the singer's memories of happier times with his former partner. The lines "I remember the smile in your eyes, And the sound of your voice now you're gone" evoke a sense of longing and regret. The singer is drowning his sorrows and trying to come to terms with the fact that the relationship is over. However, he's also hopeful that he'll eventually move on and find happiness again. The line "If I get a chance I'll be on again" suggests that he's not giving up on love despite the pain he's going through.
The bridge of the song addresses the perspective of others who may not fully understand the singer's pain. The lines "People may say that I'm lost in a bubble, I'm heading for trouble, But they don't understand" suggest that the singer is aware that he may be judged or criticized for his behavior, but he's only doing what he needs to do to cope with his emotions. The song ends with the singer resolving to continue living his life, even though he still feels a sense of loss.
Overall, "Sinking in Blue" is a relatable and emotional song that captures the feeling of heartbreak and loss. The lyrics are honest and raw, and the melody perfectly captures the mood of the song.

As someone who always liked the country side of Quo, I fucking adore this album. If you hate beautiful harmonies over competent, catchy instrumentation, you don't have a soul.
