He is someone who has never allowed commercialism to clip his wings, and who has always, for over 30 years, continued to open new musical frontiers.
Still searching, hungry, and outside conventional pathways, Frank Duval has long since escaped from the "golden cage" of show-business, and is again heading towards new artistic experiences.
Duval is the composer and virtuoso of sounds, who catered for "international highlights" with his albums, and has "often been copied", has remained settled, but musically, he remains out of reach. He has written a section of German television and pop-music history, which is, as yet, open ended, as we shall still hear from him and see him.
Born into an artists' family, he studied as an actor and dancer, but also sang with his sister, Maria. By the '60s, Duval was also composing music, both orchestral and pop, and his debut soundtrack, for an episode of the German serial Tatort, aired in 1977. From his 1979 debut "Die Schönsten Melodien Aus Derrick und der Alte", "Todesengel" became a moderate hit.
During the '80s, Frank Duval released several soundtracks, as well as proper artist albums (with occasional lyrical help from his wife, Kalina Maloyer). He hit the German charts several times, with 1983's "Ways," 1986's "Lovers Will Survive," and 1987's "When You Were Mine".
In addition, he wrote songs for the following artists: Ivan Rebroff, Alexandra, Karin Huebner, Margot Werner, Klaus Löwitsch and Maria Schell.

Movement surrounds me
Face
Face to face
With a stranger in myself
And his grip on my soul
Face
Face to face
All my thoughts and my whole life
He wants me to fail
He attracts me and he charms me
He excites me and he calms me
Makes me freezing and he warms me
But someone is trying to warn me
Face
Face to face - I'll show myself and I will fight
I'll drive him out of my life
Face
Face to face - with the power of my thoughts
I'll defeat his magic force
Movement surrounds me - mysteries
Face
Face to face - I've destroyed his work on me
I feel strong again and free
The lyrics of Frank Duval's song Face To Face explore the concept of confronting one's inner demons. The first line "Movement surrounds me - mysteries" suggests a feeling of disorientation and confusion, as the singer is surrounded by unknown forces. The repetition of "Movement surrounds me" underscores the feeling of being trapped in a cyclical pattern of negative thoughts and emotions.
The refrain "Face to face / With a stranger in myself / And his grip on my soul" describes the singer's realization that they are grappling with an entity within themselves that wants them to fail. This can be interpreted as an internal struggle with addiction, depression, or a past trauma. The lines "He attracts me and he charms me / He excites me and he calms me / Makes me freezing and he warms me / But someone is trying to warn me" further illustrate the singer's conflicting emotions, as they are drawn towards their inner demon but also aware that they need to overcome it.
The chorus offers a message of hope and resilience, as the singer decides to face their inner demon "with the power of my thoughts" and ultimately defeat its "magic force". The last line "I feel strong again and free" suggests a positive transformation and a newfound sense of inner strength.
