The Host
Frank Iero The Future Violents Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't stand the fun we're having
Drifting off (?)
Heartbroked fool and mass contusions
My crippling feels are solitary

And you're choking on our golden sessions
While basking in my centerfold
Unmade bed and blanket statements
You're playing house like we're home alone

On and on, so far gone, on and on, so far gone

You're choking on our golden sessions
While basking in my centerfold

I'm gonna fold
I'm running out of time
I'm running out of time
I'm doing everything I forgot

On and on, so far gone, on and on, so far gone
On and on, so far gone, on and on, so far gone

And you're choking on our golden sessions
While basking in my centerfold

I'm looking by my side
I'm looking by my side

I'm looking by my side
Not 'til I die

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "The Host" by Frank Iero And The Patience (formerly known as Frank Iero And The Future Violents) offer an introspective glimpse into the complex emotions of a troubled relationship. The opening lines, "I can't stand the fun we're having / Drifting off," suggest a sense of dissatisfaction and disconnection within the relationship. The singer feels like a "heartbroken fool" and is burdened by emotional pain, symbolized by "mass contusions."

The lyrics continue to portray a sense of imbalance and unease within the relationship. The line "My crippling feels are solitary" suggests that the singer's emotional struggles are isolating and intensifying their sense of vulnerability. Meanwhile, the partner seems to be superficially enjoying the relationship, evident in the lines "You're choking on our golden sessions / While basking in my centerfold." This contrast in experiences highlights the disconnect and emotional mismatch between the two individuals.

The chorus, with repeated lines of "On and on, so far gone," reflects the cyclical nature of their relationship. It suggests that they are trapped in a pattern where they keep repeating the same mistakes and getting further away from finding contentment.

The closing lines, "I'm looking by my side / Not 'til I die," capture a longing for a partner who will be there for them unconditionally until the end. It echoes a yearning for a deep and lasting connection, rather than the transient dynamics of their current relationship.

Overall, "The Host" presents a glimpse into the struggles of a relationship characterized by emotional disparity, dissatisfaction, and a longing for genuine connection.

I can't stand the fun we're having
Drifting off and rambling on
High roads full of mass contusions
My crippling fears, and your designer jeans

You're choking on all your good decisions
While I'm basking in what I settled for
(I never wanted, to want much more)

Unmade beds and blanket statements
You're playing house like you're home alone
On and on
So far gone
On and on
I'm so far gone

You're choking on all your good decisions
While I'm basking in what I settled for.

What have I waited for?
I'm running out of time
I'm running out of time
I'd give up everything, just for a glimpse

On and on
So far gone
On and on
So far gone
On and on
So far gone
On and on
So far gone

You're choking on all those good decisions
While I'm basking in what I settled for

We're all looking for a sign
We're all looking for a sign
We're all looking for a sign
We did it right

i was one of the people who first listened to Barriers due to timezones because i live in egypt, so i got to listen to it first.
my friends asked me what it's like and I said it sounds like Hole, Nirvana, The Cure combined. and it was true. he didnt lie when he said he was inspired by the cure coming up with this album.

börte

@thirteen yeah! me too

@börte yes! it was exactly midnight, hell i slept only 2 hours to listen to it first.

börte

@Shame On Me it was released at midnight in your time zone.
For example mine is GMT+3 so when it was released in my country I immediately listened to it on spotify but people in New York had to wait 7 more hours to listen to the album. BUT you are right in a way since UNFD waited to upload the songs to youtube until it was released everywhere on Earth

@izzysavage46 yes thats what i meant!

izzysavage46

@Shame On Me i think they mean that they were awake when it came out and for the people in other time zones, not all of them stayed awake until this came out. Idk tho
