Singing the Blues
Frank Ifield Lyrics

Well, I never felt more like singin' the blues
'cause I never thought that I'd ever lose
Your love dear, why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like cryin' all night
'cause everything's wrong
And nothin' ain't right without you
You got me singin' the blues
The moon and stars no longer shine
The dream is gone I thought was mine
There's nothin' left for me to do
But cry over you
Well, I never felt more like runnin' away
But why should I go
'cause I couldn't stay without you
You got me singin' the blues
Well, I never felt more like singin' the blues
'cause I never thought that I'd ever lose
Your love dear, why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like cryin' all night
'cause everything's wrong
And nothin' ain't right without you
You got me singin' the blues
The moon and stars no longer shine
The dream is gone I thought was mine
There's nothin' left for me to do
But cry over you

Well, I never felt more like runnin' away
But why s

Overall Meaning

hould I go, 'cause I couldn't stay without you
You got me singin' the blues

In Frank Ifield's "Singing the Blues," the lyrics explore heartbreak and loss in a romantic relationship. The opening lines of the song immediately express the singer's feelings of dejection and sadness as he says, "I never felt more like singin' the blues, 'cause I never thought that I'd ever lose your love dear, why'd you do me this way?" The opening sentiment is one of incredulity; the singer is finding it hard to believe that he has lost his lover's affection, and he is questioning why he has been left in such a state.

The second verse of the song continues the theme of heartbreak, with the singer lamenting the absence of the love he lost, saying, "everything's wrong and nothin' ain't right without you." He goes on to say that he's got nothing left to do but cry over the loss of the relationship. The chorus of the song repeats the opening sentiment, with the singer once again expressing how he has never felt more like singing the blues.

Overall, the song is a poignant exploration of the pain and loneliness that come with the end of a relationship. With its catchy melody and relatable lyrics, "Singing the Blues" continues to be a classic tune beloved by many.

Brings me back to a time when I was a kid and my parents had parties in the house, there was always the one guy who thought he could yodel, and we had to endure his "yodeling" and applaud him at the end, which only encouraged him to sing another one!😊
